The New Yawka in Arizona Thread

I was wondering if anyone would look into that. I had never heard of the culture or practice of it here in the states until I moved here. There are all sorts of cool carvings in the area from the sheep herders, a lot of them are pornographic. It makes sense, those guys would be out in the woods with just there sheep all summer long.

Some guys have all the luck.

Please continue posting in this thread. I definitely enjoy it. Seeing your exploits in the SW is going to make us drool all winter long given the El Nino forecast.

Very funny...awesome photos...heading to Colorado for first 3 weeks of dec. (summit county) will try to learn how to post photos and videos.

I got out for a ride in Sedona yesterday with a middle school/high school friend of mine yesterday. He now lives in Durango and this was his first time in Sedona, we rode High Line. High Line is an outstanding rip and most would agree one of the top 3 trails in Arizona. I have been riding a lot down there the last two weeks and have been showing a lot of old friends around that are getting away from their home mountain towns for the shoulder season. We are at 556% of our normal snowpack so I might be done with the bike for a while. It's time to ski!

4 AM alarm for dawn patrol before my 8:30 Biology class.

Some damn good skiing here right now, today was the deepest yet and it looks like another larger system might come in next week. It's looking like a typical big ElNino year now, Stoked!

This is why I love this place, you are riding bikes one day and two days later you are skiing bottomless powder snow. Living in 1 hours driving distance to 7 different climate zones has it's perks.

It's interesting how you guys can get 4 feet of snow in a week and have a thin base. If that were to happen here we'd be 100% open skiing with chubs.

There is an article in the new Powder Magazine, entitled "Tranquillo", about skiing in your neck of the woods. Mentions and has a picture of your boy, Ken Lane.

Interesting. It only mentions Ken from this area?

No, the article mentions that...

"Last March, I drove out from my home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to ski Core Ridge with LOCAL Joshua Langdon and his regular ski partners JP Dudine, Jason Field, and Ken Lane." It says Lane is the "unofficial mayor of the Flagstaff" backcountry because he has been doing it so long.

RA, you're not Joshua, are you??

Ya, in real life I go by Josh.

A friend sent me a photographed copy of the article after I saw your post. To be honest you scared me, I thought they must have chopped up the whole story and left us out of it. I'm stoked and I think it came out great. The reasons for me leaving Jackson in reality is much more complicated but it's too long winded for the article. I do wish I had a photo in it but I'm not crying about that. When they showed up they were a week late for Powder mag ski photography quality so it was a kind of a crap shoot on what came out and was chosen to be published.

We had a really good time touring with Jakob and Liam, those guys are a lot of fun and solid people for sure.

Nice, RA!! Harv, I never knew we have a star in our midst. I started to have an inkling about you RA when you mentioned a while back that you and your buds ride the white line trail. Then, after your initial response to my post in this thread, I re-read the article and saw the part about Jackson and out 2 and 2 together. Good job. And, I agree the article came out great.
