Lift inspection went off without a hitch yesterday. Baker was certified on Thursday (open to the general public yesterday), Mission on Saturday (opens on Friday). Echo & Badger were the inspectors last stops in WA before flying down to Salt Lake for work at Nordic Valley. The inspector who is based out of Wyoming. He's been to a lot of ski areas. The job sounds pretty sweet... after completing this inspection run, he said he was done working for the next 6 weeks... plenty of time to ski!!
The process is probably pretty straight forward with more modern hardware. It get's a bit complicated when working with machines that have been cobbled together over the past 70 years. We report our results to a wing of the Washington State Parks organization, and they send us a certificate of operation for each lift.
Our youngest lift (the Poma) was moved from Squilchuck state park after Mission Ridge opened in 1966. The top terminal shows it's age... undoubtedly this lift will die here.... hopefully we can keep it running as long as the climate holds. We recently received a grant from Chelan county. The money is earmarked for replacing the haul rope on this lift which will be done over the summer. Based on the age of the lift, the rope will probably need to be sent from Europe.
The inspection process for 3 rope tows and a Poma took about 5 hours. It was a great day to be working around the Mountain... here is a view looking down the up track of the Poma... 8 to 10 more inches of snow, and we should be good to go!!
We've been inverted for the past week or so.... it's been dismal in the valleys, but real nice above 3k
I'm not sure what it is, but I love riding around in this thing...
