Sweet Cars and Trucks

Happen to catch the trucks heading into the NC State Fair for the tractor/truck pull. The pickup trucks were towed in by 4-wheelers. Some with a caboose just in case. They are rolling on a single wheel in the middle so that the drive wheels stay off the ground.

I've watched a few tractor pulls. My favorite was at the NJ State Fair some years ago. Vintage tractors, no modifications.

Went with friends to experience a local tractor pull in central NC out in the county in the 1980s. What I remember most were the big tractors that evening. Boy was it loud!

I was at the fair on Sunday with my daughter and our local teen ski buddy. They were checking out other stuff while I went to get a preview of the other side of the fairgrounds since I was going back with my husband midweek on the day seniors get in free.

The NC State Fair is the last state fair in the country. It's one of the oldest and largest. The fairgrounds cover about 300 acres. Turns out there were four categories for tractor/truck pulling over 3 days the first weekend as part of the pro circuit.

In truck and tractor pulling, specialized vehicles of a similar build take turns dragging a weight transfer sled along a straight dirt course as the sled’s resistance increases. The winner is the driver whose vehicle moves the sled the greatest distance. In NTPA Championship Pulling, competitors travel across the nation to perform at the motorsport’s most prestigious venues and in front of the world’s most passionate fans for purse money and season championships.

Four Regional National divisions will compete at the NC State Fair Southern Showdown: Super Farm and Light Pro Stock Tractors, Four-Wheel-Drive Trucks, and Modified Minis. Light Pros and Minis will pull in Sessions One and Three (evenings), while Super Farms and Four Wheel Drives will pull in Sessions Two and Four (afternoons)."
