Thinking about making a trek to Sunday River this weekend to catch the storm. Does anyone have any insight on the mountain? Specifically, how's the crowd up there? Light enough for a weekend strike mission or is it more like the "epic lift lines" we've been seeing at vail resorts? How is the tree skiing?

Any insight is greatly appreciated before I jump to a decision!

Open Snow posted this map. (Thanks for the helpful arrows identifying New England!)

to the left please

NWS has a 60% chance of snow for SR, and I'm sure that will rise. But it could be a glancing blow.

You only live once, come back to us and post a TR or start a conditions thread!

I like those odds, even f not a nuker it should still provide at least something up there. I never skied in Maine so I'll try to cook up a nice trip report if I do go.

Curious to see how the storm plays out. Crowds have not been “epic” this year. Skied this past weekend and longest lift line was about 10-15 minutes. I’d say stay away from south ridge lodge/North Peak area to dodge the crowds.

Some very good tree skiing on White Cap and Aurora over to Jordan. Open, but still thin last weekend but one more storm should push them over the hump.

Great first post.

Welcome.

Long time lurker watching the Gore conditions thread for the past few years. A new home base in Boston has brought new adventures. Of the few skiing this neck of the woods from the forum, but this thread piqued my interest.

@NY2MA thank you so much that’s more insight than I could have hoped for. Glad to hear it hasn’t gotten too crowded there such as other places this year. I told myself I’d never ski at one of these big pass resorts but I think I could break my own pact for an Ikon mountain. My buddy is an ikon skier and will be sharing a family/friends discount with me.Vail resorts though I give the ole fuggeddabahtit never again

I hear that. Worth the trip - impressive hill that does well spreading crowds out. Choke points? Sure but nothing worth throwing all over the social medias.

Feel free to shoot me a PM for some parking tips if interested

Sunday River has been operated by Boyne Resorts for quite a while. They do a very good job with operations. With so many different peaks, not that hard to get away from long lift lines even on a weekend. I skied there a few times during early season when my daughter was in school in the Boston area.

Ikon Partner resorts like Sunday River operate differently than Epic resorts owned and operated by Vail Resorts.

I have friends who are at SR today as part of meetup for another ski forum.
