Thin but fun in the NW-ADK Sat. Jan 8 2022. More Lake Effect would be appreciated and may be in the forecast. Think snow!!

This place should be in the directory too.

This is why every day on skis cannot be counted as a ski day!

It would have been more fun if I hadn't forgotten the wax! Skin track to right, descent track to left, this is the bunny hill. But just look what grew at the top of the main slope (geez I crack me up!) over the summer!

We lived in Canton and my Dad was a land surveyor In the 50s and 60s. He later taught Surveying at Clarkson. As a kid, I skied at the SLU Snow Bowl, CCT 7 Springs, and Big Tupper. We did a lot of work over the years for SLU. One summer in the mid 60s the school was rebuilding the ski jumps and hired Dad to do the surveying. I worked with him and a student helper from Clarkson to align and provide the grading stakes for the profiles for those jumps. I ran the transit to keep them on the center line while they measured and put the hubs in up the center of the 60 meter jump. (10 below) Not bad for a 14/15 year old kid. Dad also redesigned the15 meter jump. (7 below) I remember that the jumpers really liked that one. I was sad when they closed it down. Now during the winter I teach skiing part time at the Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme, NH.

Snow Bowl

Here is the whole enchilada (more like a nothing burger). Bunny hill to right (location of rope tow), main slope to left with main lift running up treeline in center. A mogul field used to dominate far lower left corner of frame near the foot of the slope. You had to carry lots of speed if you wanted to get back to the lift from that side of the slope. Quite a few users these days. None of those tracks are mine! Perhaps earn-your-turns is growing more popular...
