So beautifully and fantastically lonely…..

There’s a place where the west is still wild, where there’s high alpine peaks rising over 5 thousand feet over the deserts below. In those mountains you can find lonesome camps next to massive Aspen groves, historic sheep herder carvings and patches of snow lingering into July. Theres huge herds of elk, bears and mountain lions. There’s endless 11 to 13 thousand foot tall peaks to go explore and barely another soul around.

There’s ghost towns and towns still alive with miners and whores. There’s a whiskey bar in the middle of nowhere next to a trout filled creek that pours down from the towering mountains just out back.

There’s curious roadside oddities, salt flats and mountains of sand. The nighttime sky’s are filled with stars and the sounds of critters that roam in the dark.

This place…..is in California, or maybe it’s Yellowstone or up in the Wasatch mountains, I don’t remember exactly but those are the places to go for sure….

nah. It’s often called the loneliest highway in what some call the loneliest state. It’s awesome.

Great images and thoughts, RA. Blue Toes and I drove the the Loneliest Road in America some years back, on our way from Twin Falls, Idaho, to somewhere in Utah. It was spectacular, though a bit browner in late October. At the Pony Express rest stop, I ended up chatting with the nice ladies from the RV posse heading to Scottsdale. "Which one is your rig?" one asked. Oh, the silver pickup over there, I said, pointing at the Taco with Ontario plates and a cap on the back. They all kind of moved away at that point.

The taco? It was a beater eh?

The green stuff was up high in the mountains and around water sources. I think it’s almost always brown down in the lower elevations. I had to do some fairly extensive side tours to get to those places. They definitely made the trip for me. I think I’ll be back sooner than later to do a bit of backpacking and wilderness loitering.

I need to wonder through there..After my little romp out west, I need more of that!!!!
Thanks RA for posting
