Who had Sugar Mountain in North Carolina opening before Big K on their BINGO card?

Folks who follow SkiSoutheast aren't too surprised. Depending on essentially 100% snowmaking coverage means being ready for any time Mother Nature provides an opportunity for 24-hours snowmaking after Halloween. The SkiSE Discord discussions started getting active a week or two ago. Pics have been posted of Sugar this morning. NC schools aren't have classes for students for Veterans Day so more people showed up than for last year's opening day on Nov. 22, 2024. :)

Cataloochee opens tomorrow, Nov. 12. Sugar and Cat are the NC resorts that compete for "first to open" headlines every year. Both have been blowing snow and constantly improving snowmaking infrastructure since the 1960s. Sugar elevation for skiing is 4100-5300 ft. Cat is farther south and west, with elevation 4660-5400 ft.

Beech Mountain is blowing snow as well, elevation 4675-5500 ft. The tiny town of Beech Mountain is also at 5500 ft. When driving to Beech, first drive up from the valley, through town, down over 1000 ft, then back up to the Beech Mountain parking lots.

Meanwhile, Ober in western TN has been working their snow machines for a few weeks. Snow tubing opens this weekend. Ski slopes open Nov. 22. Ober added a couple more boxes for the 2025-26 season, bringing the total up to 14. Most of them are Latitude.

I'd say Greek's snowmaking improvements are noticeable --- LOL

I believe that the NWS US National Weather Service Binghamton NY radar was 'seeing' snow being made at Greek Peak tonight. The NW winds were blowing some of that snow downwind into Broome County.
Greek Peak is located on 392 between Messengerville and Virgil in Cortland County. The plume extended SE into Lapeer and Center Lisle.
