I met this sales rep, I was talking to him today about business. Somehow skiing came up.

He lives in NH and his company is based in SLC so he's an epic guy. I guess.

I showed him this pic, and he was like "man that looks terrible!"

We Gore skiers ain't like the rest of em, I guess. Or maybe it's we NY skiers. Maybe it's just me and @sig.

Let's hear it, who thinks that looks fun, who thinks it looks redonculous?

Thin cover with supportable spring conditions is a lot different than thin cover with fresh snow lightly hiding dangerous obstacles.
True.

Big diff East vs Rockies too.

what the hell does that guy know. he sounds soft. probably no clue what boiler plate is either. if it is soft in the north east the skiing is good. either powder or mashed potato's, i will take it. dude in the photo is ripping it.

Some people shine their skis, then there’s people like us who ride them. Dude sounds like a shiner. That pic is a beauty Harv, don’t listen to anyone telling you something different.

Ski style makes a difference as well. I know skiers that do that back seat noodle thing which keeps the tips of their skis above the surface while they bounce their way over logs and whatever else is thrown at them. I don't like skiing like that. I like aggressively loading and bending my skis, driving them more like a racer. I find it hard to do that if I'm stressed about smashing a log and possibly breaking my leg. Ever smash a stump with your ski right under your boot? I have and I can't get rid of that extremely painful memory. There's nothing wrong with that noodle ski style, some folks really make that work and it definitely helps skiing thin snow, it just ain't me.

I've also seen a lot of early season eagerness turn into broken legs. I've skied enough that I can be patient. It's a good thing.

Good point: the difference between early season pow TC and late season spring meltage TC.

Also knowing what is underneath. I've skied Ridge Run at Plattekill with 8" of dense new snow without too much of a thought, it's mostly grass and maybe a few pebbles here and there.
