Ski Jumping

Chapeau to the state of NH for keeping this going. Can't be easy. Does she jump in the summer also?
Like a lot of good things, it’s all due to a small collection of coaches and committed volunteers.

Lots of loaner gear (the only required piece of equipment the skier has to provide at our school is their helmet). The school has a bunch of spongy neoprene jumpsuits from the 1980s. The boots and bindings are obscure and wonky. Much of the gear is hand-me-downs from clubs or private schools, or even European teams. Teams are normally about 75-90% male, so there are lots of girls (and young boys) wearing oversized gear.

This daughter graduated from hs in 2019. She never did any summer training….most of the Plymouth kids don’t. Although some have been to Lake Placid for a camp. More of the Ford Sayre based kids (Hanover High School) and Kennett High school (Conway area) are likely to really take it serious enough to train year round. My daughter was well rounded, a “ski meister” as they call NH kids who compete at the state meet in all three disciplines: Alpine, Nordic, and Jumping. Now she just skis for fun.

It can't be an easy sport to get into in this country. Dearth of smaller hills for younger people, training opportunities, equipment expense....

I saw that. What was different about his setup vs the standard used in competition?

I used to ski jump

Disappointing paucity of tech info on multiple articles that I just looked at. From the video, it appears that the inrun is way longer than a K90 or K120 hill. FIS declines to recognize Kobayashi's record because the hill was not to FIS technical specs. I don't have a dog in that fight. It's an astounding achievement.

By contrast, one might argue that Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge's sub 2-hour marathon time in Austria was much more contrived. As with Kobayashi, this wasn't a sanctioned event. It was Kipchoge running 4 laps of a closed course with 41 ( 41!! )pacers, who ran in a V formation around him. There was also a pacing vehicle.

Bunch of cry babies. He has gone further than anyone ever has. Nothing stopping anyone from trying to beat his distance. Maybe Red Bull does give you wings.

FIS must not sanction this either.
Too much fun.
