Season Passes

I don't like the new ORDA April deadline for the "cheapest" rate.
I do not want to pay for next season when this season is still in play.
This seems to becoming the new industry standard.
Monkey see - Monkey do.

I get the scenario for a new pass holder but not renewals.
I liked the August deadline.

Started longer ago than you think. In the southeast, most season passes didn't go on sale until the fall 10-15 years ago. Early bird prices for 1-location season passes have had deadlines in March or April for most ski areas/resorts in the region for 5-10 years.

I'm on a few e-lists in the northeast and midwest for curiosity for ski areas/resorts I've checked out in recent years. Most are independents. Started getting early bird offers for season passes 2-4 weeks ago.

Brundage in Idaho started season pass sales in early March for the lowest price, deadline is March 23. The banner on the website says early bird pass are 95% sold out as of March 17 based on some limited number they want to sell at that price. I get the sense this timeline is not that new. Brundage was founded to locals over 50 years ago and serves the people who live in McCall, population is under 4000.

What are the target Ikon resorts for 2025-26 for your family?
We will definitely use all of our Killington/Pico days, Sugarbush, maybe an early season day at Stratton. Will probably meet my brother's family at Sunnapee and/or Sugarloaf. Tremblant is always a good family trip and we hit Steamboat, etc for a trip out west.

Windham Mountain Club season pass will be $2,000 next year. If you buy an Epic and an Ikon pass for $2,380 you can ski 140+ destinations around the world. I won’t be getting any of those but I do find those numbers to be interesting.

Aspen, Jackson Hole, Alta, Big Sky, Telluride, Palisades Tahoe, Whistler, Hakuba, Niseko United, Valle Nevada, Kitzbuhel, Andermatt, Verbier, Les 3 Vallees, Chamonix…
I decided to skip the full pass next year at Windham and instead went for the weekday pass at $550; I'll be at Plattekill on the weekends instead if I'm up there. The money I saved will go towards day trips to Vermont, Gore, Mohawk, Belleayre, or wherever looks good at that moment. I'm disappointed with almost all the decisions the new owners have made over the last two years, but I will say that conditions were excellent this past Friday. I started off at Plattekill and headed over to Windham for some late laps on my pass. Conditions at Plattekill were really nice, but there was way more quality snow and open terrain at Windham. Snow was soft and fast.

Between eliminating Ikon and raising the price of the full pass, sounds like there will a lot fewer people skiing Windham on weekends next season.

Did you consider the Indy Pass?

Indy Pass doesn't have enough locations that realistically meet my anticipated winter schedule. We have the house at Windham, so the midweek pass will work really well. Weekend and midweek day trips will primarily be closer mountains like Mohawk, Thunder Ridge, or Holiday Mountain. The rest will be wherever looks good in Vermont, Massachussetts, western and central New York, Belleayre, Gore, and Whiteface, maybe even Pennsylvania. I like the idea of a multi-pass but can't commit to making to limiting myself to whatever mountains are on it to make it worthwhile.

That’s a pretty good deal and a solid plan. Cool that they’re offering that option. Windy and Platty will make a nice combo.

Love Tremblant! Last time we were at Tremblant was the week before the world shutdown in Mar 2020. Was gonna try it this year but decided on Sugarbush instead, which we also really like.

Probably gonna renew our Ikon passes again. There's still a lot of places we want to get to including;
Big Sky, Deer Valley, Tahoe region, Sun Valley, Jackson, Sun Peaks (Canada)

Was going to also consider Indy but it sold out before I could even think about it.

My home mountain Bristol might be on the chopping block. A 16% price increase for the 12 visit card pack which I share with buddies is just a ridiculous price increase. Instead I'll ski less in NY but make the drive to Holiday Valley or Gore periodically and maybe a first time visit to Greek Peak.

Makes sense to be fully flexible given the way winter driving and weather is in that region.

When I had reasons to drive to Lake Placid or Boston while my daughter was in school up north, I checked out a few places. Did an Indy ski safari that included Catamount, Berkshire East, West Mountain, plus Windham with Ikon, and a powder day at Plattekill buying a lift ticket (end of Pres. Day holiday week). In eastern PA, I've used Indy at Montage a few seasons.

There was not a crowd at BEast during Pres. Day weekend. The Ski Diva I was rooming with in the Berkshires and I met up with a couple Ski Divas. One did a day trip from Boston while the other drove from Westchester.

Given the price of Indy as an Add-On to my Massanutten season pass, as long as I get in 4-5 days it's worked out well. This season I planned the Idaho ski safari around Tamarack and Brundage, plus had a couple days in VA/WV.
