Resort Expansion

so yay or nay on the moratorium MC?
Both.

some places should
be allowed to expand, others shouldn’t.

for me, I’d be more willing to let feeder hills, local spots, and smaller places expand, while stopping the bigger places from expanding further, especially in places that have so many resorts so close together already (Utah, Summit County CO, Tahoe, etc.).

But I also wouldn’t hate another mountain or two at Vail. If it keeps more Vail skiers at Vail, that’s good.

I disagree about the part time residents statement. Part time residents pay property tax, in many cases at higher rates than locals, and barely need or use municipal services.
It depends on how you define the term "community member." The definition looks different from the perspective of a full-time resident in a small town. Paying taxes is only 1 part of community membership.

I have 3 part time residents within earshot of my house. They spend a few weekends here when the snow is good. Most of the time it's random people from the West side escaping to the woods for the weekend. Based on my experience, there is very little respect for property rights among the 2nd homers and their AirB&B clients. Everything from Fireworks in July (a big no-no around here) to snowmobiling through my backyard in the Winter.

I just stepped in dog shit today. The people who rented the house across the street this weekend brought 2 dogs with them. Chances are that pile of shit came from 1 of those 2 dogs. Full-time community memberships typically pick up their dog's shit

:)

How about the Yellowstone? Between Vail, Yellowstone, and Park City there's enough capacity to satisfy that demographic

I agree. I manage a feeder hill that is in desperate need of a snow-making system.

I think I'll restate my original position. Feeder hills should be exempted from the moratorium

Any expansion should be done in areas that can still hold snow pack when average temperatures are 10 degrees higher- hence super high altitudes and/or far north.

How long is a flight to deep Quebec? 2 hours?

Well, again, you can't even see the mine, to start. And you really have to consider all the pollution (air and water) that a Saturday crowd at Gore creates. That's a lot of toilets flushed.

I think most people take a shit every day no matter where they are.

i actually just skipped a day yesterday. I thought I was being environmentally conscious but I had to flush twice today.

Sovereign Lakes Nordic Centre is located at 5550 feet altitude in BC. They're even feeling the effects of climate change.
