PNW Conditions

This is a really sweet CGR of Mission Ridge... expansion area is in the lower left quadrant... 3 chairs, a village with a cabriolet gondi, and a destination village.

 ❄⛷?

That Mission expansion looks really cool to me. Adding ski in/ski out lodging to a mountain I already plan on definitely visiting is a plus in my book. Of course the challenge of “staying small” and not losing current identity in the midst of expanding is often easier said than done. I know such expansions aren’t always greeting with excitement by locals. What’s the current pulse out there regarding the expansion, and what are their hopes for time frames?

I’ve had nothing but great trips to the Seattle environs. Multiple trips to Crystal, an epic trip to Baker. However, my favorite so far has been Alpental. That place is special. Big mountain skiing in a place that is “small” (it’s not!) and somewhat under the radar. Locals I was fortunate to hook up with were stoked to see an East Coast skier making a destination trip to Alpental (and the surrounding backcountry). Mission seems like a very similar kind of place, and it keeps moving up my list for upcoming trips. The (hopeful) possibility of hooking up with a couple locals from the NYSB (what a world we live in, that such a statement is even possible) would be way cool!

Yeah. There is a small group of hard-cores that are opposed. I'm not sure I fit the description of a local hard-core. I've only been out here for 10 seasons. The real opo is coming from people who grew up with Mission. The neighborhood vibe is pretty positive. Home values in my neighborhood are supported by the success of the ski area. I close on the sale of my house tomorrow. I'm now a renter in the neighborhood. That said, I would rather keep Mission a more community oriented area as opposed to a destination resort.

It's a 20 year development plan. The bulk of it is predicated on the sale of homesites/condos. They are already working on the road to the village, so I suspect that they'll begin with site preparation next Spring.

Ya. My new house, that will be built next Spring, is about half-way between Stevens (45 mins) and Mission (35 mins). I'm up by Mission for 1 more season... hopefully we get some big cycles as a result of the growing La Nina

Lift replacement at Mission going well... snowmaking countdown has begun... weather permitting snowmaking starts at the end of this month.

This should be an interesting call on the start of snowmaking over here. Guns are set to fire on 11/1.... maybe they'll start early... it's looking like about a foot above 5k, with a fairly cold pattern in the near term.

To further complicate things, the bubble chair install is still in progress
