Plattekill Workday

Impressive turnout. How many were there specifically due to hearing about it through NYSB?

How many other hills have a similar day? I know Magic, VT.
Not sure how many were there via NYSB, would be interesting to know. I know MRG also has several days dedicated to clearing glades.

Our workday list has about 90 people on it, all garnered through the blog post, over the years. I'd defer to @Roman and @Brownski but I'd think many have come from the effort by you all here. I heard estimates that ranged from 35-60 this year. Two years ago we had a solid count of 56, and this was at least the second best turnout.

Ro, Danielle, Laz and I have been discussing if it needs an upper limit, or not.

Tip of the cap to ML who first had this idea 12 years ago.

From my house near Raleigh, NC. :)

Met up for a chat with a ski forum character in northern VA on the way. Hadn't seen him since we caught up at lunch in Utah a few years ago. He tells great stories. Stayed in PA on Thursday night. That's why I had time to wander up US15 on the way to Cooperstown. Got there in time for a good dinner at the Cooperstown Diner on Friday night.

Driving home tomorrow from the Poconos. Going south on I-81 to US29 per usual.

Been trying to work getting to the Plattekill Work Day into my schedule for years. That's why I asked so early in September what the date was going to be. Even so, finding a motel room for Friday night near Roxbury during prime fall color season wasn't that easy.
That’s so awesome!

Hard to say- Not everybody introduces themselves. JTG, Marz, myself (+ 1 son)… at least a few blog readers that don’t post in the forum… Doesn’t really matter as long as the work gets done right?
Fuck
FRK was there too. Sorry, man

@Frk how many workdays have you done? I don't think he's missed one in quite a while.

I haven’t missed one in quite a while. The first few gatherings were small with only about 10 people. We were satisfied to cut a 10 foot path. The crew on Sunday was fantastic. The large group split into 3-4 groups which covered the whole mountain. Not only was new terrain cleared but old punji sticker and other silent killers were removed. Due to the unpredictability of snowfall, it’s so important to clear glades so they can safely be skied with less than ideal snowpack. I’ve never seen such a hardworking group. Of course, we’re all fanatics so we were fastidious in our fieldwork. The last few years have shown that the glade day has reached critical mass participation. I wish gore would give this a try. I’m sure that large tree is still lying across the bottom of straightbrook glade just waiting for some chainsaw lovin’.

Yeah that's what I thought.

Have you made every one? Time for an award at the annual meeting.

As long as there are a fair number of experienced folks to lead small groups, didn't seem to be much of an issue on the mountain. My impression is that everyone who showed up was pretty comfortable in the woods, even if it was their first time at Plattekill. Meaning they haven't skied there yet.

Was this the 6th year?
