Peak Ski Co. Goes Down

Bode Miller was a founder. What a shame.

@Harvey Please remove if someone has already shared this.

What a clown show. Starting and running a business is difficult and expensive at best. Running it so fat as a startup should have lit up the warning bells. When they went to buy one pair and get another pair for free right out of the gate, you knew there were problems. By running the bogo they instantly devalued their skis. Then they ripped off more people with the crowdfunding.

And here we are......

Hasn't Bode had other businesses flop?
He has been involved and is still involved with a number of businesses. It is never quite clear what his level of ownership is when he speaks for these companies.
For skis , in addition to Peak, he was involved with Bomber and Crosson. Both websites work. Bomber looks current, Crosson not so much.

If Bode's name is still affiliated with Bomber or Crosson, I couldn't find it on their web sites. I rather think there would be some kind of non-compete clause for stuff like that. Did Bode only bring technical expertise to Peak, or did he invest?

He was described as a co-founder when the company was new. Peak was at Snowbound Expo in Boston the last couple years.

Bode Miller wants you to try his skis. No, not the burly metal Head or Atomic skis that saw him become the two-time overall World Cup champion and six-time Olympic medalist. He’s not pushing $2,500 pairs of Bomber Skis this time, either. Today, Miller is launching a new venture, Peak Ski Company, a direct-to-consumer ski brand leading with a line of six all-mountain skis designed for skiers like you and me—which is to say, skiable by mortal enthusiasts. Miller is joined by co-founder Andy Wirth, most recently the president and CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings until 2018, who will serve as the brand’s CEO.

I wish Stockli would do a BOGO. They don’t give anything away. My buddy who runs the local ski shop said usually when the reps come in, they bring in tons of swag, T-shirts, hats, socks, stickers and what not. When the Stockli rep came in, he brought a bag of apples.

The booze I business is full of stories like these. They cut in a celebrity on a startup to try and get attention for an otherwise ill conceived project. It usually doesn’t work but I have a half dozen or so pics of me standing next to celebrities at sales meetings. Danny Devito and Messier wouldn’t take photos though. Fuckers

The number of celebrity tequila, whiskey, and wine brands is outta control. Most of them aren't great. Former NJ employer did an end cap one year promoting various celebrity wines. Total flop.

I recently had a chance to try Ass Pocket Whiskey. I was skeptical: $65.00 for a 200ml that was a collaboration with Derek Trucks. But dayum, that was tasty shite.
