Passes for 2020 - 2021

Boyne Resorts shifted their season pass offerings in the northeast. No more New England pass sales, which ended in June. There is a new Maine Pass covering Sunday River and Sugarloaf that will be available from Sept. 1 thru Oct. 12. Boyne may not offer the Maine Pass again after Oct. 12. There are perks related to MCP locations for the Gold Maine Pass, but nothing comparable to what Platinum New England passholders got for Ikon locations.

I am still hoping to be at Gore as an instructor, but they are still working out the procedures and it's impossible to know at this time whether or not I'll feel safe with what they come up with as well as what the state of the virus will be. So I'm going to buy a non holiday pass and use it mostly mid-week. I may ski a few weekends and just leave at lunch time to avoid any indoor crowds.

Stay safe everyone.

Tom - good luck! FWIW, I called Belle today, and they said they didn't think they would know what they are doing in terms of distancing, etc. until late September.

School planning downstate has been back and forth under government guidelines, where it seems like folks suggesting things/leaders are just getting whiplashed back and forth (not a criticism - difficult situation). I would think that would mean more beuracratic (sp) places will take longer to come out with good plans. The countervailing consideration is (1) NY has done a pretty awesome job on distancing issues and (2) I heard that late March before shutdowns, state mountains were doing well (admittedly with much lower skier traffic).

Hey @raisingarizona , are you hearing much about the Power Pass lately? I'd forgotten that Brian Head was acquired so now two locations in Utah.

The inclusion of 3 tickets to Monarch and Loveland has meant that I keep it in the back of my mind for a NM/CO ski safari some day. My Albuquerque ski buddy likes Purgatory. He's already over 65 and qualifies for the senior rate. I'll get there soon.

Apparently Purgatory recently donated $60,000 to a local COVID-19 relief fund effort based on season pass revenue. I discovered yesterday that the current GM was the GM at Mt. Bachelor for 8 years before more or less disappearing in 2016 after an abrupt departure. Dave Rathbun has had a pretty challenging couple of years with the fires and then a pandemic.

I spoke to them too. Yesterday was the deadline for the cheapest season pass at the ORDA mountains. I understand how impossible their position is right now. But that they are taking our money and aren't able to give us even the most simple answers is difficult to swallow.

They say that we'll get credit for any closures, which is great. But my main concern is what happens when there are long lines on a Tuesday morning because there's only one lift running. I'm basically assuming that the gondola will be closed for the season, and if it is open, I'm not getting in it. Those aren't closures.

I thought about Epic/Hunter but at Belleayre I can gear up in the upper parking lots and walk to the slopes. Hunter is also a lot more expensive.

So I relented and got a limited pass since, at $350, it isn't a giant investment. But I feel discouraged that they're putting deadlines on passes when they don't seem to have any plan whatsoever for dealing with coronavirus.

Some good points. With the Dec 1 cutoff I'm hoping I can get a day in before then to see how they do. I realize that the first days could be a shit show, then I bail, and then they figure it out.

With a place near Gore my math is a little different too.

Welcome QB.

funny you mention it, I’ve been spending a lot of my time lately up at brianhead trail building. I actually met John (previous owner of the ski area) the other day. We are camping on his land and he came out to open a gate up for me that someone locked improperly. He was a super down to earth and cool guy.

I’ve fallen in love with southern Utah.

I guess Coleman is partnered up with Copper, Loveland, Monarch and Sundance. We get three free days at each.

I’ve got my eye on another trip up to Durango. It’s just too easy for us. Cody is ready for Silverton me thinks and I’d love to give her a heli drop or two.

I bought the adult SKI3 pass last night before the deadline. Between a newborn and Corona I'm not sure how much I'll actually get to use it but I decided to pull the trigger. I won't be getting an Ikon pass this year but I may pick up a couple of K Tickets - TBD on that.

I'm hopeful that the new Dark Side quad will alleviate lift lines if the Gondola is limited.

After a lot of thoughts on both sides, I am opting to forgo a WF pas for the season. Hope to maybe hit a few Coke Wednesdays and maybe a few mid week days and just bite the bullet and pay at the window if conditions warrant. Hopefully by March I'll be able to pick up a season pass for the following season and get some use of it before shut down. Also going to do more XC skiing, check out some new places, and even some back country tours.

I actually got a normal amount of skiing in that newborn year.

Baby liked the car ride and wife liked the change of scenery. Wife didn't ski, and sadly doesn't ski often anymore.
