Overnight Parking at Ski Resorts

Ou sont les dames?
Where are your ladies?

Merci garçon, mais je ne suis pas interesse dans la service d’un valet.
Thank you, but I’m not interested in valet service.

‘garde ça, Serge, ils ont des “mountain ‘osts” ici!
Look, Serge, they have mountain hosts here.

Maudit tête carré!
Freaking English. (Literally more like freakin’ block head.)
That might help.
Not really sure if this does, but ya might still learn something.

Taos allows 14 days for free I think. Taos really needs more people to visit though. It’s fantastically sleepy but that resort can’t be making that much.

Campers generally don’t spend as much money as the target consumer I imagine.

It mostly comes down to numbers and management opinions/philosophy I’m guessing. Maybe your insurance carrier has a say in it too but I don’t know anything about that, I’m just throwing it out there.
Have you looked at the prices for The Blake? I think the current owner is happy enough with the way things are going at Taos. The plan he put in place is a long-term plan. There was a lot of deferred maintenance and delayed capital projects during the last few years of the Blake family ownership. Much of the emphasis is on the the non-ski seasons. Can't stand still as a destination resort and stay in business.

Taos has a pretty laid back approach to cars that get left overnight in the regular parking lot. Or at least that's been the case before 2020.

I haven’t ever taken advantage of it but I understand a lot of Vermont state parks allow winter camping. Check out the website.

I’m sure visitor numbers have been improving since they joined the ikon and with the covid phenomenon but overall I still think they need more to be financially viable.

Get there before it’s ruined!

That mountain is SO damn good.

Last season was very tough. NM capacity limits were pretty severe. But they are moving forward with the idea of a gondola to connect the main base with the Lift 4 base. So still thinking long term and 4-season. I'd like to do the Via Ferrata some day.

Going in Feb again.

Now I'm curious to ask about the rules for overnight parking. Although that's not for me. But a friend has a custom van that she set up for her retirement. Got off to a slow start on using it since the planned retirement started in 2020.

Beyond primitive camping? I've spent nights up in Butler Lodge on the backside of Mansfield a few times in early March, not sure what car camping spots in Little River SP would be like that time of year but it would make for some amazing backcountry access.

There’s a useful Facebook group for this called “STE car campers” (I think the STE stands for Ski the East, so it’s mostly eastern based) with lots of good info on what places allow what.

Very cool, I don't participate in the Zuck Suck but maybe I can weasel some info without an account.
