ORDA's Biggest Mistakes

ORDA is currently spending $22 million (or more) expanding the Discovery Lodge at Belleayre. In 2019, ORDA spent $9.1 million or $14.6 million (depending on sources) on rebuilding the Discovery Lodge. Why was this new, additional expansion bid for the Discovery Lodge not included in 2018? Oh, right, ORDA. By the way, the current rebuild contract for the Discovery Lodge was cancelled Dec, 2024.

According to the Belleayre website, construction is continuing at the Discovery Lodge and the Overlook Lodge is closed for renovations.
That’s a lotta mils, especially for something so fugly, too small and or not completed. Last year was a disaster with the stitched together mobile unit ski rental shop and food trucks. The Overlook Lodge was in need of some love, there was a bunch asbestos remediation and mordernization that was due, but I’m surprised they tore into it before Discovery was finished first.

ORDA is currently spending at least $15million (probably more) on the NEW North Creek Ski Bowl Lodge that does not have any provision for sewage.
It seems they’ll initially be holding, then pumping and hauling the poo out since the NC sewer system won’t be completed before the lodge opens. ..."ORDA will be the first customer, there is a hold and haul permit with DEC and will be at ORDA’s expense."

P-Oops.
I’d guess the poo hauling will be on a weekday unless the cup is getting close to being runneth over.

What better way to get the pols to ante up for the sewage system? Likely the cost for sewage plus lodge was too high to get approved. I watched this movie many times in private industry. Its not efficient or very ethical, but it gets the project done.

It looks like there has been a contract signed to build the treatment plant for $10.1 million.
Is there any local info about the construction timetable? This article says it will be ready for the 2025-2026 ski season.

"Construction is anticipated to begin as soon as April, with the new facility expected to come on line in time for the 2025-26 ski season. Gore Mountain Ski Center is expected to open its new lodge, chairlift and zipline at North Creek’s Ski Bowl in the fall of 2025, using the new wastewater plant for its sewage. A hotel is planned for the site as well."

The treatment plant will not be online until some time in 2026. The plan for new lodge for this winter is pump and truck up to the main mountain to Gore's treatment plant.
Imo the lodge should not have been allowed to be built unless ORDA stepped up and paid for a significant portion of the new sewer system, as "payment" for the use of the Ski Bowl land, which belongs to the Town of Johnsburg; but alas, just like forever, the town board felt that if they had held orda to that deal, that orda would pick up gore and move it to some other town... 🤷‍♂️ :poop:

What are they thinking? Copperfields in North Creek is barely viable, but they're gonna build a hotel on Town Dump Road because 6 high speed quad weekends a year at Ski Bowl and the zippy thingy are such a great attraction? WTF?

That press release was completely fucked up. The Copperfield is privately owned and it is being renovated currently with a new roof being installed now, they plan on being open for the upcoming ski season for rooms but no mention if they will open Trappers for food. (BTW North Creek, just lost another restaurant as Hey Days pizza is "taking a break". So in thelast 6 months, we lost Basil and Wicks, Bar Vino, and Hey Days...this town is literally going to :poop: 🤬
The new proposed hotel at the ski bowl will also be private as Front Street-aka Ski Bowl Village owns that property and if it actually gets built, I'll be shocked) and the proposed location is not on the dumpo road but rather between the base of The Hudson chair and the new lodge.
