Oak Mountain Conditions

Oak was great today. Probably a little more than half open with great snow. A four hour ticket was plenty. Holiday week and no crowds. Nice place to get away from the hustle of the big mountains.

Sparkle City’s Oak got a nice write up recently.

I worked course maintenance today for the Broadalbin-Perth Invitational race at Oak, and got in some free skiing too. It was my first Oak skiing in 6 years, which really surprised me. A fairly firm granular surface early became very much a spring skiing day with some periods of sun, some showers, and even a few rumbles of thunder. There was plenty of cover on the main snowmaking trails I skied: Sacandaga, Oak Mountain Run (during and after the race), Ryan's, and Kunjamuk. I only made one run down a natural trail, The Thing, which had some bare spots but was skiing really nicely for the weather situation.

Skied a half day at Oak today. Firm corduroy in the morning with no lift lines. Great to rip long Super G turns. Softened up considerably by noon. Quality grooming. Only one thin spot on Sugarbush. Had a great burger at the bar before heading home. Oak has the friendliest people.
