I haven’t been to Mt Cain yet, though hopefully I’ll make it happen someday! I’ll surely post a report if I do.
As you noted, it’s a bit of a haul from the city—well over 6 hours, similar to the drive to Revelstoke. Among the other barriers to getting there is the FSR which I hear can be pretty challenging, especially when you don’t have a 4x4 or AWD vehicle (like me). Then you’re pretty much committed to camping once you’re there—unless you book in advance and deal with potentially marginal conditions.
All of these obstacles won’t prevent me from going entirely, but they sure make a trip tougher to pull off, especially when there is so much good skiing close by.
