Magic Conditions

Good on Magic. Looking at similarly run hill that isn't opening this weekend

I skied there yesterday with a fairly small number of other people on the hill. Which is good since the Green Chair is slow and there were only 2 official ways down: Wand to either Kinderspiel or Showoff. Kinderspiel had some inches of natural snow on top of not quite nothing. Showoff had plenty of cover from snowmaking and even got a bit softer after some skier traffic. Really need some storms to come through to get some more terrain open. Looks like maybe something midweek and temps should be favorable for more snowmaking coverage.

Not a lot changed since last weekend other than my right big toe has healed to where I was able to ski both Saturday and Sunday. Oh, that's right, conditions on the mountain.

Not a lot changed since last weekend other than they opened some additional trails. That doesn't also mean you necessarily want to try to ski on them. Wand, Show Off, Kinderspiel, Mystery, Magic Carpet, White Kitten, Disappearing Act and Vertigo were open with varying degrees of coverage. Kinderspiel and Vertigo were surprisingly good on Saturday, Mystery was about what you would expect with endless water bars, but skiable and it was possible to avoid the worst of the rocks. Magic Carpet was not a good time, so I don't know how Vertigo held up since I was not willing to deal with the rest of it. I didn't even consider Disappearing Act or White Kitten and was later informed of the wisdom of that decision. Only Green Chair was operating; maybe they will have the summit open this week. Here's a shot of Kinder from the chair.

Skied Magic last Thursday and Friday. Only snowmaking trails on the east side were Wand to Show-Off. Also skied Kinderspiel, lower Mystery, and Lower Magic Carpet on thin cover. Didn't hit any rocks. Didn't see any snowmaking going on either day. They were taking an excavator up the mountain on Thursday. They evidently had some leaking pipes. Hopefully they'll get open to the top soon. Place was empty.

Lower Magic Carpet really took a beating Saturday and Sunday as it was the only "beginner" terrain open. Amazing how few skiers it takes when they are scraping sideways down the trail.
