Living in the Mountains

Another factor in the low tide is the downturn in Canadian visitors. Even in Lake Placid this summer and fall the small number of Canadian vehicles was clearly evident.
We rented a VRBO on the water in Lake George only a week ahead last summer. I didn’t see a single No Vacancy sign all week. That never happened before.

Only recently have Canadians returned to the Tri-Lakes. And not in the numbers I'm accustomed to seeing. The Can-Am hockey tournament season has begun. Curious as to how many teams will come down from Ontario.

Summer should be a season.

I can't speak to North Creek. Up here in shoulder season, places will shut down for a week to give their employees a break before winter. Or they'll shorten their hours.
It’s leaf season. I’d bet rooms in VT are sold out.

Leaf season is over up here. Unless you want to see the tamaracks turning color. The Flaming Leaves Festival shoulda been called the Just Past Peak Festival.

It is. Just not in North Creek. What is there to do?
This is my point.

Honestly I don't fully understand why North Creek struggles so much. You can say "there are no beds." But I don't buy it. Attempts at beds have come and gone.

There has to be more to it.

Mind you I love North Creek, I don't mind that it is sleepy.

This dude wrote a recent piece.
It’s kinda long & well written.
