Living in the Mountains

I can't speak to North Creek. Up here in shoulder season, places will shut down for a week to give their employees a break before winter. Or they'll shorten their hours.

There never used to be "shoulder season", it seems to me that this term is used in place of poor economic growth. NYS needs to bring back the logging/mining industry to the ADK. Old forest growth isn't healthy for the woods or the economy. Not to mention snowmobiling and the untapped ATV/UTV trail systems. Groups like PTA really need to take a field trip to the ADK Museum and truly see what built the ADK.

I'd like to add to this.

We're seeing Moose make a comeback in the ADK, which is awesome!!! Where are they located? They aren't in the old growth forest because there isn't any food. They're being found where logging has taken place, that's where new growth occurs. New growth is also another name for food for wildlife.

Saw moose tracks years ago back in the woods near where there were beaver dams in a vly.
I wondered why there were cattle tracks out there. Had to be moose. They were fresh tracks.

It's shoulder season. The owners of the stores shut down.
Basil and Wick's hasn't operated since April 1. It's for sale. A major loss.

Bar Vino, not sure. They posted on FB that they were closing. Hey Days (pizza) is "on a break" for a while.

Garnet Hill has changed their business model, focusing on private events. It's open to the public sometimes, but always call ahead.

What am I missing?
