ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I'm starting to like the Maverick.

I have no idea if it will be reliable, but driving it is really fun.

1200 miles, 38 mpg.

It’s not really helpful to compare

We are on our fifth hybrid. 500,000 miles total, none of them have needed any repairs, or anything beyond oil change and tires.

The 2012 got a new battery (small one, for starting the ICE) after 13 years. That's it.

Obviously my experience is a very small sample. Still I'll be buying hybrids until EVs are, IMO, a no brainer. Not yet.

You owned all Japanese vehicles. Now you own the leader in recalls and repairs. Hopefully they turned a corner

This is true. If Toyota would make a Ford Maverick it would be a done deal.

I will say the Mav makes some funny noises I'm not used to, especially in a new car.

Yesterday as I was leaving Plattekill...

Laz: "hey an American car!"

Harv: "yea built in Mexico!"

Spot on Harv. Nothing American about it
I drove the mav for a day. I did enjoy it

What would 78mph (my normal speed) do to your range? 68 is way too slow on the interstate.
If you take the taconic, which I did on the way down, you might end up in the trees if you did 78. I know your reference was to interstate.

I took a defensive driving course a few weeks ago after my wife got a bolt to lower my insurance (no tickets etc, just bolt had higher insurance than 12 year old subie). Unfortunately it worked, and I now drive a bit like a relaxed grandma. A bit of a waste with a Rivian, we'll see how well it sticks.

So driving 68mph and keeping your cabin heat turned down so it’s not comfy gets you better range? No thanks. I will keep pumping gas.
Also, I would have been fine driving 78 both ways - arrived in Saratoga at like 30 percent, and arrived back home at like 20 percent (on the way home I drove like 30% time in normal mode, which gives you over a 1000 horsepower in case I needed to accelerate very quickly).

I hadn't checked in on my range for a while, so just drove slower on the way up.

Hope the tree day was fun! I loved doing it with my guy a few years ago. And finally got to meet the man, the myth, the legend.
