I finally watched "In Pursuit of Soul"

I'm concerned that in ten years, numbers will be down, and the pressure on independents will increase even more.

I hope I'm wrong.

I hope you are too. Even though my skiing day amount to 1-3 days per year now, I can not imagine not having Greek Peak as my backyard.

It almost made me feel ashamed I'm an IKON skier this season. I'm certain I'll be a one and done with them.
Since I have the time and interest to travel, I have both. Ikon for trips out west and Indy for the east.

Wouldn't mind using Indy out west too, but the locations are spread pretty far apart so getting to more than one requires a very flexible schedule to account for difficult driving weather.

F'em all, I hope it's a good snow year with plenty of XC / XCD / BC !!!

Here’s a new one
Don't think folks in the southeast and some areas of the midwest would agree with the level of pessimism this guy has. "Vanishing" is not that term that comes to mind in those regions. In fact, the two VA hills closest to Washington DC have recently completed the addition of new terrain and upgrades of a key lift. A few hills in the midwest are being re-worked instead of becoming "lost."

The first push back to Epic was the Mountain Collective Pass. Then came Ikon after Alterra took the remains of Intrawest and built a strong multi-resort company with a different operational model than Vail Resorts. The fact that the Mountain Collective didn't fade into oblivion when many of those resort joined Ikon showed there was more than one way for resorts not owned by VR or Alterra to continue to stay in business.

Mountain Capital Partners is certainly optimistic about family skiing in the southwest. Kids can get a free season pass, even without a parent buying one.

The Indy Pass showed the demand by people who don't ski over 10 days a season when the price is decent and the locations are within driving distance. What Doug Fish started has grown into far more than he imagined. Not only in N. America, but it's feeding into the increased interest of Americans to consider skiing on other continents.

That said, well worth re-watching Pursuit of Soul.
