I don't like the idea. There are so many aspects to ski safety that can put you in a position to not need a helmet. Like not skiing near others, looking uphill (seldom seen, I've found), well tuned skis, ability relative to trail difficulty/conditions. Plus, you can't hear as well with a helmet on.
A very bright guy I know said helmets don't protect you as well as you may think on steeper terrain. This has to do with falling less in a perpendicular toward the ground, but more parallel, resulting in a less impactful fall.
Will there be people who vehemently disagree with me? Sure. To that I answer the same as what a comedian said about motorcyclists not wearing helmets: "if a head is functioning that poorly to begin with, it doesn't warrant protecting." And f-you. ?
