Helmets bro!

I don't like the idea. There are so many aspects to ski safety that can put you in a position to not need a helmet. Like not skiing near others, looking uphill (seldom seen, I've found), well tuned skis, ability relative to trail difficulty/conditions. Plus, you can't hear as well with a helmet on.

A very bright guy I know said helmets don't protect you as well as you may think on steeper terrain. This has to do with falling less in a perpendicular toward the ground, but more parallel, resulting in a less impactful fall.

Will there be people who vehemently disagree with me? Sure. To that I answer the same as what a comedian said about motorcyclists not wearing helmets: "if a head is functioning that poorly to begin with, it doesn't warrant protecting." And f-you. ?

I'm down with helmets a bike or roller skis. Helmet likely prevented a concussion once when I fell and bashed my head. Even with it, my bell felt a bit rung.

FWIW I've seen little kids periodically wearing helmets while nordic skiing. A few times at Dewey Mt, where there's a nasty downhill. And sometimes on much less forbidding terrain.

yup, you can’t use the g word any longer. It hurts the kids feelings today.

don’t even think about using the f or r words either, you’ll trigger a full on millenniul melt down. It is plainly just disrespectful. I’ve never heard these words used in a positive context.
These words were disrespectful and wrong yesterday and today. I’ve never heard them used in a positive context. Are you going to defend their use under free speech defense?

I've had three concussions in my life, one skiing, one climbing and one snowboarding. None while wearing a helmet. Are there long-lasting effects? Hard to know but now I feel naked without a helmet while skiing on lifts. Though I typically don't wear one when skiing self-propelled. Slower-moving, I guess.

I got some concussions as a kid. I started wearing a helmet while skiing around 2000 (most of the time but not alway if it’s warm out). I fell hard enough to see the flash of light once since then. Was it hard enough to do damage if I wasn’t wearing the helmet? I don’t know. Maybe. I believe it would have been another concussion at least.

i'm a bit of an ass. i was late to parabolic skis and very late to wearing a helmet. now its a no brainer. keeps my ears warm and allows for more aggressive lines in the trees.

didn’t we skip right on by that whole parabolicker ski design thing?
