Hardpack ScrapeOff: Platty vs Belle, Hunter.

I remember when I started skiing and snowboarding was still pretty new I would see lots of people wearing Sorels or other pac boots. I’ll bet the Timberlands are more supportive then that at least

To be fair 1/19 is the Sunday of MLK weekend, probably the second busiest day of the year. The others are all around Xmas/NYE, but I get your point.

I skied Hunter a random non holiday Sunday last year and it really wasn't that bad.

1/19/20 was one for the books, the traffic literally stated at the Ace of Clubs on 32A in Saugerties, we knew what kinda day we were in for from that point onward. The problem with Hunter is not so much the terrain and the mountain itself, more the issue is the clientele. Kooks from Jersey like myself and don't even get me started with those Long Islanders . Jokes aside I've had some nice weekdays and even rode the deepest day of my life at Hunter one faithful day in 2007, weekends are just always a bust. Vail added insult to injury with the hundreds of thousands of Epic passes sold in the immediate New York metro area alone. Add in a high speed 6 pack chair that would be more at home in an amusement park and you have all the pieces to have an entire mountain scraped off by 9:30am. Hunter North was cool for the first couple of days, but then I quickly realized that very few that ski that mountain were capable of handling off camber terrain, the accident report from that side of the hill would surely support this. Sorry for ranting, I just have some strong opinions about the place, but I've also seen its ups and downs over the past 20 years of riding there.

Maybe it's a teleskiers choose their days wisely thing?

Clearly if you choose to ski hardpack alpine equipment is better suited to the conditions. The NTN gear lays down a pretty good P-turn and if I get into something shiny, I'm paralleling.

The day after I had two great days in the trees at Gore, my plan was to ski new snow on the third day. It rained for a short while and everything was coated in ice.

I was in the parking lot a the ski bowl, with my boots on, 150 feet from the lift, and I chose to drive home vs ski. That's just who I've become I guess. Sure with some super sharp skinny skis it would have been easier to ski that day, but in my estimation still wouldn't be fun.

Every day, every minute I ski, I am away from my family. I want those days to be good or great. Or at least decent.
Good info, Son thinking NTN setup

Yeah, me too. I’ve skied at Hunter. I can be insulted by statements that aren’t aimed at me too
I just ordered some Timberlands, maybe I can still make it
