Gunstock going the way of Sunapee?

No. Well, unless the tin foil hats take over the entire state government. Anything is possible.

It seems like the Gunstock situation is the result of a few extreme "Free Stater" county officials getting control. NY authories like ORDA are designed to be the opposite of local control, so we shouldn't expect a push to shut down Gore and Whiteface.
The libertarians all like to think of themselves as high minded intellectuals, but really they behave just like guys who hate to pay taxes. It's unfortunate that they want to shut down an insignificant local ski area, but it gets really bad when the have an opportunity to undermine public education, as they have in some NH communities.

Which, itself, brings about its own set of potential problems, e.g. outsiders making decisions that affect locals.

Possibly, but the root cause seems to be lack of public involvement. Or, really, complacency.

*note: I believe the above to be true regardless of one's political persuasion.

Yeah, and it ain't just NH. There's been a grass roots effort all over the country to take over school boards, especially after Covid. Election boards or authorities or whatever you call them are second. Expect some rude surprises the next few years to a decade. Always good advice, but hardly anybody follows it, is go to your local town council meetings and take mental notes. Myself included. Recently I found out that a local "selectman" (really, wtf is a selectman?), proposed to enact a tax scheme that would essentially make my condo complex sort of section 8 housing (I've always joked that I live in the ghetto of my rich town, but I didn't expect someone to codify it). Long story. But, if you ain't paying attention, they'll sneak right up behind you, drop your pants, and have their way.

1. I don't think North Korea and ORDA are in the sMe space.

If you're interested in this ongoing drama, and, it is ongoing, The Northeast Skiology group on Facebook is covering it about as well as it can. Both sides dug in. There is a meeting of the Gunstock Area Commision today at 10:30 am. Stay tuned.
