Greek Peak Conditions

OMG today was the best day of skiing at Greek in a few years. Fresh snow, temperatures above 25, lite winds. Goggles needed for most. Even icy Zeus was easy on fresh snow.

I spent a couple of hours at chair 5. The skiing was great.

That chair scares the absolute shit out of me when it stops. It rolls back a bit and bounces. Not fun.

Greek was so fun Today, woods need a bit more but alot of good turns in the trees this morning. Chair 5 stops are so unsettling for sure. The long resets don't help the anxiety

Do you know why the chair rolls back as it does? It has always done that. I didn't used to get so scared until the time that they had to evac, followed closely by being on the chair when it did roll back.

It definitely has always done that and I'm not sure why. I don't think it's actually rolling back I believe that chair, for whatever reason, has a big bounce in it when it shuts down. Next time you're waiting to get on and it stops watching the counter weight. You can actually see it move up and down. It's definitely an uneasy feeling. I too have been evac off that thing. More than once! LoL

And you ride horses to boot.
That's what I tell myself. I also drive a car daily. But, nope, that stop scares me. I grab the safety bar every time. After the last stop yesterday, my leg was shaking because I was that scared. I love the chair 5 vibe. I wish that I wasn't so scared by the chair.

I have been trying to find information online about how lifts work. I would like to know the mechanics. I figure that if I understand it, I will be more relaxed.

Meanwhile, I went to the main mountain this morning. Chair 1 rode like a dream and there was no line.

I’m sorry. This isn’t going to help. When I was a liftie I was taught to hit the emergency stop at the slightest backward travel. I asked my son what they taught him about rollbacks when he was a liftie at Mountain Creek just a few years ago and he said they taught him to hit the E-brake as fast as possible if the lift moved backwards at all. Chairlifts are not supposed to roll back during normal operations. An uncontrolled, catastrophic rollback is maybe the worst thing that can happen on a chairlift
