Really? In past years, I recall gore getting sunway to quick silver and showcase open and then moving to top ridge and the summit. It’s mid December and the whole lower mountain is open. Given the cold December this might have been the right call.

I’m at Whiteface this week and there is far more area open here than at Gore. I haven’t been to Belle yet but from their reports it seems like they have more than Gore as well.Skiable acres open they are not that different, gore includes all their glades so % looks lower all the time. If WF included the slides it would be much closer
Absolutely, my perception riding TopRidge today was that it was running at about the same speed as the old one. It’s nice to have a new lift but didn’t feel like a huge upgrade, compared to the Hudson chair that was like going from your grandparents old Buick into your uncles new BMWLiftblog shows the new Topridge line speed of 450 ft per minute, same as the line speed listed for North, High Peaks, and Sunway. They did not have a line speed for the old Topridge listed.
That said, I suspect that the reported line speed is the maximum, not necessarily the typical operating speed. (I have a hard time believing that North runs as fast as High Peaks on a normal day).
ANSI standards are that triples run at 500 feet per minute and quads 450. Actual running speeds are limited by loading and unloading problems, and I suspect very few fixed grip lifts run at maximum speed on busy days. Good loading and landing zones are critical for achieving maximum speed and capacity.Liftblog shows the new Topridge line speed of 450 ft per minute, same as the line speed listed for North, High Peaks, and Sunway. In Gore’s defense the triple did seem to breakdown a bunch last year. My kids even created a song to the tune of “on top of spaghetti” called “I’m stuck on the triple”.I haven't ridden it yet, but I really don't understand why they even did this project. It provides no discernible improvement to the experience. It's an updated version of the cold, slow lift that everyone hated. It needed to go detachable, or at least have the loading carpet it was supposed to. In fact, it's actually longer than the detachable they built last year.
There are days on Topridge when an extended stop, at the wrong spot, could be fatal. In Gore’s defense the triple did seem to breakdown a bunch last year. My kids even created a song to the tune of “on top of spaghetti” called “I’m stuck on the triple”.![]()
In a comment in a Gore UMP, the local, Cunningham wrote something about the facility should have expanded in the other direction. Maybe he actually new something about the locale...There are days on Topridge when an extended stop, at the wrong spot, could be fatal.
Once we broke down on the wrong day in that spot, and it was devastating, holding my wife to try to keep her warm, as she wept. She never rode that lift again. I'll never forget it.
He was referencing going up Pete Gay Mtn (3137 ft ele) to the north of Gore.In a comment in a Gore UMP, the local, Cunningham wrote something about the facility should have expanded in the other direction. Maybe he actually new something about the locale...
I try to stay outa the TopRidge pod. Maybe if it’s sunny and the corn is ripe. There was a lot of poles observed when the snow had melted under the lift line.
