Gore Mountain Conditions

... better management of resources would be better spent blowing on the other facets of Gore than blowing top ridge just to show off the shiny new lift.
Looks like folks might save water & energy by just packing 🏂 ⛷️ the pow themselves when it opens.

Tis good exercise to boot.

As a cautious weekday skier my frustrations are growing with Gore's lift choices...
Today I shared my thoughts with Gore's management...
"
I want to share with you a frustration I have with which lifts Gore spins weekdays. In previous years snow coverage might have kept Bear Cub Quad closed, but that is not the case this year. I realize the Greenway Magic Carpet is open daily for true beginners. But it services a very small and limited area. Fifty yards away Bear Cub Quad sits closed for weekdays. The Cub Quad was meant to be a lift for those beginners ready to advance to terrain such as Lower Sunway. It also is the perfect lift for older, cautious skiers (like myself) who often find sections of the terrain on Upper Sunway too challenging. The Sunway Chair goes to this more challenging terrain as well so it really is not the correct option compared to Bear Cub Quad.
I am a Senior Season Pass holder who as a retiree can and do avoid the weekend crowds. But I am feeling cheated that Gore so far has only chosen to run Bear Cub Quad on weekends. I would be satisfied if management would at least commit to one or two set weekdays days to spin Bear Cub. I draw a comparison to the Bear Den area at Whiteface with its Coyote Carpet and Falcon Flyer lifts that service true beginners, advancing beginners, and cautious skiers DAILY with access to 5 or more trails. I feel Gore should at least offer Lower Sunway access via Bear Cub Quad for weekday skiers like myself. I honestly feel cautious weekday skiers are being short changed. Your thoughts? "

Yeah, I know all you regulars are having a great early season.... but I am an old, cautious skier and also a Season Pass Holder. I am feeling left out. Doubt I will get much satisfaction but it did feel good to at least express my frustration.
Enjoy.

Please share whatever response ya get, if ya care to,
or,
if it’s just crickets.

Silence speaks.

I applaude you for speaking out to management and I hope that:
A. They at least respond to you
B. They tell you that it's an early season thing and will be remedied
C. The chair will be run at least 5 days a week.

In regards to the Sunway chair, it was a total fuckup by ORDA to not keep the midstation, as now that chair is useless to true beginners.
Progression for beginners could have been, magic carpet➡️bear cub➡️sunway midstation➡️top of sunway

Just an FYI, the ski bowl opening is on hold, plenty of snow over there, but what's the rush now that the lodge is stuck in a quagmire.🤷‍♂️
Lifties at the Gondi said yesterday that AE2 would be closed Mon, Tues for the season other than holidays.
And finally, there seems to be something amiss in regards to no snowmaking yet on the summit. My guess is it's a case of "shhhh...don't tell anybody, it's a secret"... and what do you y'all think that the secret is???

Yes, I could forgive short staffing.... maybe.
But my experience is they will start spinning Sunway Chair instead of Cub Quad!
Which I hopefully addressed....
That jump, like Cork said, to the FULL Sunway Trail off Sunway Chair is a bit much.
Have I skied it ...yes Sometimes, even from Ruby off the Gondola.
But you will run into sections that are steep, or questionable conditions for some of us.
Plus you are mixing apples and oranges when it comes to abilities.
At 75, I do not want to feel I am a hazard to better skiers,
but I still want to keep enjoying skiing at my own pace...

I’d love to know the status of snowmaking…which means because of the lack of information I’m encouraging educated guesses and speculation.

Did the pause from the seemingly fast paced and successful start happen because the reservoir needed to be refilled? And if so, how long does it take to refill?

It also seems there is a heavy use of old ratnik guns on trails where there are permanently mounted guns with easy click on and off abilities. Those permanent guns dont seem to be currently in use. This includes both lower echo and what I’ve observed on pine knot. Why?

Ok! Maybe management is watching, as now it seems as though the Ski Bowl will be open this weekend. Tune in daily as lift operations change... 🤠

I don’t blame you for wanting to avoid the weekends, but if you ski early you can get 1.5-2 hours on bear cub without much crowds. Then between 12 and 1 there are no kids lessons so the area will again be pretty empty.

I have suggested a fence to keep the bear cub area separate from the main subway trail as it’s intimidating for beginners to have lots of people bombing past them.

I also agree with cork that the subway midstation is a big loss. Bear cub to subway is a huge jump for beginners
