I believe Albany is the most northern part of their range. They are up there in a pine barren or on an escarpment or something. I’ll have to look it up.That's the lower Hudson right? Cactus are not up in Albany. Pretty cool

Should folks colored in green Ontario County in the map?OK, not Albany. Confirmed in Suffolk, Nassau, Richmond, Queens, Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Ulster and Columbia counties and Ontario.
Hey @jasonwx the cacti are also in Massachusetts. There are two species known to be in New York and New England, Opuntia humifusa and Opuntia cespitosa. Both are considered endangered. What you see there on Hook Mountain is O. humifusa, entirely yellow with small needles. In Mass. there is O. cespitosa, its flower has an orange center and the needles are longer. There is a fairly large population on Nantucket with over 1,000 plants in three locations. There is also a small patch of only one square meter somewhere in Barnstable County on the Cape. Would be a cool find. If you like Pina Coladas…flowering prickle pear cactus overlooking the Hudson River
