I stayed at the Microtel Inn in Dickson City a few times 2013-16. The owner/manager had a Ski & Stay deal for lift tickets. He was a regular at Elk. There are other bargain motels as well.
We run a side business I don't want to doxx myself with specifics but we do cash or check. Credit card would require an internet connection and skims several percent off of the price in addition to other fees and security issues.
We have discussed trying to accept them with the bank several times but it's just not wort it for us.
I prefer cash anyway, it is easier to keep track of how much I'm spending and it gives small businesses that extra few percent profit rather than going to the big banks
I was going to go to Montage today - rolled in bright and early right at open, blacked out of Indy pass - duh ? - continued right on up 81 to Elk. Good snow quality except on the far western trails which were a bit slick in spots. When I saw how busy it was I thought I would be waiting in line all day but the lines moved pretty fast, I can't have waited more than 5 or 10min & trails of course not crowded at all. West side double was not running so that line was a bit longer than the other, idk if that was staffing or if they are just trying to preserve snow quality with not all the trails over there open yet - they seem to have plenty of help.
1 degree on the drive up, but it was not nearly as cold as I thought it would be when the sun was out probably hit 20.
Most reasonably priced food I have seen in a long time & free water. Free lockers in basement. You can begin right at quad this year if you order rfid online.
Apparently it was deserted yesterday & at open this morning. Cleared out at about 2. They are making snow on a few more trails to open including the one under the doubles.
I love it there, never ski it on weekends. Wish they still had night skiing weekdays. Conditions are going to be better then expected even when Mother Nature throws curves. Only downfall is not many ways to ski it and no trees allowed.
