Dutchess Ski Area

When I was interviewing the owner of Shawnee PA yesterday for the podcast, he mentioned that he used to work at Dutchess Ski Area in New York. I'd never heard of it, so I looked it up, and it looks like it was a substantial operation - 1,000 feet of vert with three lifts, rising over the town of Beacon. I have to imagine it was pretty dramatic to have a ski area rising out of town like that. Did anyone ever ski there? Is there anything anyone can tell me about the place? All I can find is this trail map:

You used to be able to distinctly see the trails when driving on 84. It opened in 1967-68 and closed in 1975. The early 1970s were low snow/warm years in the greater NYC metro area. Sadly, I never skied it.

For those of you who have hiked the trails, do you think they're kid-friendly? Wondering if my 5-year-old could handle it (without snow). He did fine on some uphill hikes this summer.

No doubt. To where the Casino was at the top of the incline railway, easy peasy, it’s the hipster highway. The fire tower is a longer adventure but the views are worth it.
