And yet we create religions that claim that "god" created "himself" in our very own image! If that doesn't reek of male human ego I don't know what does!
I don’t blame you for being frustrated RA.
In Christianity, the story of creation is told in the first book of the Bible which is Genesis;
The first day light was created and darkness was separated so there was day and night.
The second day water and sky were made.
The third day it was land and vegetation with fruits and seeds.
The fourth day the sun, moon and stars came about.
On the fifth were creatures of the sea and sky.
What you are referencing happened on the sixth day after the wild ground animals and livestock are made, but your quote, “‘god’ created ‘himself’ in our very own image” is a reverse tenet.
The first part of Genesis chapter one verse 26 is as follows,
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.” It is understood here that God is speaking with the holy trinity. Then in verse 27,
So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
It is understood that this refers to our shared spiritual and mental attributes such as consciousness, reason and morality as well as the capacity for love. But, here are the full verses of 26, 27 and 28;
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
I’ve always struggled with “rule” and “subdue”. Without stewardship and proper care we have wreaked havoc on our world which was a gift to us. For some, it can be unfortunately inferred that we are apart
from and not a part
of nature and that God in fact created it and gave it to us so that we can do whatever we want with it.
We need to do better.
