DEC: Two skiers survive weekend Adirondacks avalanche

A buddy of mine skied Avy Pass this morning. He said the slide looked huge. They were ascending when the avalanche occurred. Staying apart and wearing helmets is rarely done on the up. If you here a whumpf it’s time boogie, hard to do with skins on. Apparently the guy who rescued his friend had only practiced using a transceiver once before and that was at Marcy Dam just before the incident. Very lucky to be alive.
First ever ”save" with a transceiver in the east.
Dude must be one fast lucky learner..

With a description like this, "According to CalTopo.com the path is about 1,100 feet long, 170 wide, drops 608 feet with an average angle of 31 degrees and a max angle of 43 degrees, and is a North East aspect" it sounds like fun to ski.
I'm sure it helps that the cost of technology (beacons) is/must be less than it was 20 years ago.

That article says slide was Feb 19, 2000.
Another story below with different folks says they were caught in a Wright slide too Saturday February 27, 2000.
