Big Snow - American Dream - 9/14/22

Well if you buy new equipment it’s perfect for working out any bugs before the actual season starts.
Two hours is a good time interval it does get a bit monotonous towards the end. Alcohol would help.
My friend who lives in Philadelphia used Big Snow in 2021 to break in new ski boots. I think she went three times. There were people who joined her for each visit. Mostly folks who lived within a couple hours, but there were a few who drove farther as a day trip.

If I lived closer - like 30 minutes away or something - I'd go probably half a dozen times in a summer. I don't really get some of the negative comments. You get on the snow in the summer/fall and it's a great activity for kids and other people who might not have the chance. I had fun but I wouldn't drive 2.5 hours for just the experience alone. The quality of the snow wasn't real close to real conditions but it was snow and I skied for two hours for $30.

Meh, I’m good.

What negative comments? It’s nothing but love on this side of the table, believe you me. We’re helping. So to review:
1. Definitely go. About once a month is probably enough.
2. Bring a friend.
3. Bring some booze but not too much And make sure it’s in a resealable container.

Stu’s interview with the owner implied additional locations would likely be smaller, which would be a mistake in my opinion
I wonder how much the planners for Big Snow have looked at the numbers. I bet overall, it doesn't make sense for them to build them any bigger as most of their customers possibly don't care?

Heck, I'd probably just build an indoor tubing park , snowball fighting zone and an area to construct snowman. Get a bad ass taco stand and a sweet ski lodge bar. Put em in the desert, southwest cities and make the $$$.

Oh yeah. Mountain biking is outside. I like outside. Skiing is cool but I don't need to go to mark it down or whatever. If a friend invited me I'd probably go hang out for social time but I'd still probably end up eating 20, maybe 30 mg.

The folks who operate Big Snow also own Mountain Creek at this point. They are very data driven. They were in charge of Mountain Creek but not the owners before they went off to create SnowOperating. The primary mission of SnowOperating was to rework the process of renting gear and taking lessons so that newbies don't get turned off on Day 1. The only way to know if something new is working is to collect relevant data. My home hill worked with SnowOperating for a season just before the pandemic and the difference was immediately noticeable in multiple ways.

During the summer, part of the beginner section at Big Snow was taken over by sledding lanes. They do summer camps, then other camps and clinics during the school year. They offer private lessons but only for beginners.

What you are thinking is exactly what the Alpine-X people have in mind for Texas. They are planning to build in Austin and Texas. Snowplay is a key component.
