Best Slopes for Beginners near Westchester

When are you thinking? The snow is going to be your biggest obstacle. I think Belle has the best snow in rough times and they give the novice skier the best experience. I skied it, probably for the last time, a couple of weeks ago and the amount and quality they had open amazed me. I am a Gore homey but have skied Belleayre the last two years, because of the job I just quit, and was quite impressed. I learned at Campgaw in Jersey, less than 45 minutes from the Mario Pan Zee Bridge, Not really an overnight destination though.

So what is the actual plan here? The two of you going for a weekend to learn to ski? When is it supposed to happen? Given the weather so far, you might be better off pushing it off til February or March. Thunder Ridge might be ok for a first day or a lesson. Mohawk is a little further and is a way better mountain and will be less crowded. You’ll drive past Thunder Ridge to get to but Mohawk but it is worth the extra driving. Campgaw, Mount Peter, Holiday and even Mountain Creek all have good points and bad points. We all have favorite places but coming from Purchase and spending two days at it, Catamount makes the most sense. The drive is silly easy. They don’t have much lodging but it’s worth giving them a call about it.

They have a good ski school, a brand new lift for the learning area and a decent amount of beginner and intermediate terrain spread out across the hill. The only reason not to go would be if they don’t have enough terrain open. But if we’re talking early March or late February, they’ll most likely have plenty.

I mean, just look at this- no bridges, no tolls…

I'm new on here. I would like to bring my novice 20 year old skiing for the first time. She attends school in Purchase so I'm looking for a hill I can bring her to within a 1 to 2 hour drive from there, with nice snow cover if that's possible. It would be just a two-day stay.
I ski'd a long time ago in high school, took myself to the slopes with practically no training and loved it. I haven't done it since and at 68 will stick to the bunny slopes if that. My daughter wants to have some snow given the awful climate reality (we're in Brooklyn), and she wants to try snow boarding.
What about stayin home and goin over to Big Snow @ American Dream?
I hear it’s EZ peazy & should be quick & EZ for y’all.
There’s stuff on here about it & if ya hit the search box ya should find it.
