I have always said Lake George is a top 10 lake in the world. It is visually spectacular. If you get up near Hague the water is crystal clear with 20 foot visibility. I used to drink the water back in the day. it is obviously struggling with lots of traffic and those who feel they need green lawns.

I like uniqueness. You can't beat Placid for the incredible boathouses. To me, boathouses are really interesting - the variety of sizes, styles, how they are built and maintained.
We've rented a 20 HP a few times from the Saranac Lake Marina, going through Lake Oseetah, Lake Flower (stop for ice cream), back through the two locks (one manually operated) and over to Middle Saranac. Stop on a beach for a swim, lunch....makes for a great day. I don't think you can get that anywhere else.
Upper Saranac is cool. Mrs. Cooper and I plan to paddle out to Chapel Island for a service one Sunday.

Here's my gramps and me, my dad's dad Frank, in his fishing boat on Cayuga Lake, sometime around 1964.

He was such a great guy, always acted tough, but full of love. He'd get me up really early to go fishing, and we'd fly over the waves, bouncing all the way. I didn't fish much, I'd just hang out, looking forward to the ride back, when we'd fly over the waves again.

He was a long-haul trucker who had a thing for cigars, and it got him in the end.

One of a very few in our family to die young. I think he was 66. Really miss that guy.
