Berkshire East Conditions

I was able to sneak in a couple hours at Berkshire East this afternoon/evening (about 4-6) by taking the northern route back home from some meetings in Northampton, and using my first Indy redemption there. It was my second time overall at Berkshire East, and first since 2005.

It was warm and sunny when I arrived, had to be in the upper 50's. Snowcover is pretty good on the snowmaking terrain but all natural snow terrain was out of play. Even on some snowmaking trails, there was water and some mud patches in places. It would have been a beautiful day for mid April. The visit was enjoyable, and I was able to ski a variety of their open terrain in my 10 runs. I think Exhibition was the most fun for letting the skis ride, and there were some fun soft bumps on the side of a few of the steeper trails. It was comfortably busy but not crowded, mostly the after school groups which tend to travel in bunches. I never waited more than 6 or 7 chairs on the Summit Quad, and never had any line at the Wilderness Quad. The line for the Summit Quad was getting a little longer when I left, maybe 12-15 chairs, so still basically nothing.

For a run or two, the sun was already behind the mountains from the base, but was still not quite down up high, so I guess I experienced multiple sunsets today.

Posted this in the Catamount thread but well worth a listen for the info about plans for Berkshire East. I had a very good time there for during a Pres. Day weekend a few years ago. Deliberately wanted to use Indy to see how crowds would be. BEast is always worth the extra drive when I'm staying in the Berkshires.
