Belleayre sold out again

If they're selling out every weekend, then they need to expand the mountain.
Or raise the price of admission.
Or buy and revive one of the other Catskills ski areas that have closed. They could even create some incentive for current landowners to do that. Spreading the skiers out would help local businesses more, distribute vehicle traffic around the region etc…
Or send people to Plattekill
Nooooo

Also how busy is sold out?
I don't have a number but do have plenty of observations. It is busy enough that all parkings lots are full including the maintenance/XC lot with cars parked down the access road from Overlook to Galli Curci Road and additional cars near Rt. 28. On mountain it results in crowds that when a lift goes out, lines at the Belleayre Express will begin lining up still on the hill. Trails remain relatively low traffic outside of Deer Run which starts to get straight up dangerous in certain areas particularly where people stop and congregate. All said the staff manages sold out weekends well, parking areas staffed up and cars are directed efficiently, they will strategically fill certain lots before others to cram everyone in. Gondola operations are super efficient and its very rare to see a cabin go out not a full capacity.

What bugs me is when a line of cars starts developing near Boiceville and runs all the way up 28 to the lots. Those days really make me believe the load of skier traffic not being spread out evenly amongst Catskill ski areas is a legitimate issue for the region. Victim of their own success and well run operation plus recipient of overflow from the other areas failing to provide a good experience is an interesting place to be in, one that no one would guess we'd be in 5 years ago. All past spending is justified, all future spending is valid, maybe ski areas don't belong in the hands of publicly traded companies after all?

So where exactly are they going to expand? Highmount? There’s like three trails over there. Cathedral Brook? They just removed it. Giggle Hollow? Will never happen. Any expansion / new lift / lodge brings more people. They already have to blow out the new lodge they built. Victor Constant at West Point still runs the old Belleayre triple and no one goes there. People drive right passed it with their families on their way to the Catskills and don’t even know it’s an option.

This is absolutely true. The lack of bag storage at the lodge is probably going to be the reason our HS ski club probably won’t go back next year.

i would love to see them develop Highmount. It and Plattekill were my go toos growing up in Northern NJ. I may be wrong but NYS bought it and were sued by neighboring ski areas and were not allowed to develop it. I think NYS still owns it.

No idea. I'm still trying to find out if cathedral brook and glen are off limits or just not patrolled. Its still a snowshoe trail and people skin up so... As for expansion I have no idea.
