Belleayre Conditions

Impressive base on the upper mountain

Got up to Belleayre yesterday morning for what might be my last day of the season. Bluebird to start the day. Very firm and kinda chattery for the first hour or so, which is what I expected. Started to soften after 10 and it never quite got creamy on the upper mountain but became pretty fun and edgeable. Much softer on the lower mountain. The connectors are fading (I wasn't able to get back to my car in Lot E from the top of the express chair and had to ride the gondola an extra time) but the snow platforms they've got built up on the main trails are still pretty deep.

Sunset Lodge is open for restrooms, so I got to go inside the building for my first time. Clouds and fog started to roll in mid-morning. The mountain was empty.

I waited until after 11 to hit Seneca and wished I'd gone to it earlier, was one of the best runs of the day. Messed around in the little patch of low-angle bumps on Chinook (or is that the Canyon?) and the ungroomed side of the blue part of Belle Run but all the real moguls on the upper part of the mountain were too firm for me. Tongora and Yahoo were closed - Tongora looks like it's about done for the season, but Yahoo still has lots of snow.

Started snowing around noon, right when I had to leave. Snowed most of the drive home on Route 28, heavy at times -- turned to rain a few miles from 87. Conditions report says they picked up an inch.
