Bad Wipeout

As always this is just terrible news. This one hits home though. I’ve skinned that ridge to ski Middle Basin. Sounds like they missed the normal uphill route. I doubt that would have made a difference though since the danger was everywhere. One of the points made in the summary of the Wilson Glade accident in Utah to be considered,
  • Former forecaster Evelyn Lees found that 32% of avalanche fatalities of tourers from 2009 to 2017 happened on the ascent. Her study stresses the need to find safe ascent routes.
Ripitz, More “info” here. Something about McMansions changing accessibility, allegedly.

Some other points made were that grabbing onto trees rarely works and skis with locked toe pieces contribute to a deeper burial. I would imagine the inability to release applies to most split board setups. Another point to consider is that most people don’t wear a helmet while ascending to help regulate temperature. It’s most likely the most valuable pieces of equipment when going through a strainer. Definitely some lessons to learn. Another point made by one of the survivors of Wilson Glade,
“We were there to have fun, and this isn't fun.”

You see the park guys do it all the time..just not on ice at 100000000 MPH
I think the jibbers call it a nose butter. Hard to do on a pair of 223s

That ain’t no Corbett’s
