    Gore Mountain Conditions

Ski Bowl is easier to get to now but it's still requires most people to skate to get there and to return. It also requires Paradox, which can be intimidating for many, even if people who ski Rumor don't recognize that. Those things will always be enough to limit the crowd at Ski Bowl, which is...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Sure I can. The Hudson triple was one of the newest lifts and it didn't stop all the time. I'm fine with a reliable slow lift with no wait times that goes to uncrowded trails. I would have been OK with a fixed grip that loaded well at Topridge, even if the industry the industry is moving to...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Even Gore has detachables in harder to reach spots. Burnt Ridge and Ski Bowl are further from the maintenance building than Topridge. Even the gondola and the AE2 bases are harder to reach if they have to bring vehicles through skier traffic. I don't know what "standard configuration" is, but...

That's a good idea. They should put it where Uncas splits off from Topridge. mm

    ORDA's Biggest Mistakes

Since you asked... $40 million for a lodge at an elevation of less than 1000 feet with limited parking, that's only accessible from Echo- oh wait Echo is always closed to the public- only accessible by skating the length of Hedges from the lowest point on the whole property and then usually...

    ORDA's Biggest Mistakes

[ The rumor is they are still working on the interior of the new building and they will open Ski Bowl with the old lodge. mm

    Whiteface Conditions

I didn't see any South Americans at Whiteface this weekend, so I think the rumor about them not being there is probably true. The clearance issue at the new lift would have been discovered and corrected when they did load testing, so I think that one is false. mm

He should have told them that when they were writing the plan. Once they publish the draft UMP it’s too late to make changes. I guess his business wasn’t big enough for them to pay attention to him. mm

    Whiteface Conditions

I didn’t find the lift waits too bad Saturday. Maybe I have a higher tolerance for lift lines than for traffic on the trails. I’m gonna bail out today as soon as the Santas show up. mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

ANSI standards are that triples run at 500 feet per minute and quads 450. Actual running speeds are limited by loading and unloading problems, and I suspect very few fixed grip lifts run at maximum speed on busy days. Good loading and landing zones are critical for achieving maximum speed and...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I’m at Whiteface this week and there is far more area open here than at Gore. I haven’t been to Belle yet but from their reports it seems like they have more than Gore as well. mm

Really? Was it the right call to move to Ski Bowl before the upper mountain or even before there were working toilets there? mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Sounds like Gore is water limited. Which raises the question of why they expanded to Ski Bowl (and Burnt Ridge earlier) before they built water capacity to cover it. Or why did they make snow at Ski Bowl before they could even connect it. mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I’m at Whiteface today and they’re blowing snow on several trails on the upper and lower mountain, way more than I’ve seen at Gore this year or last. Belleayre is reporting that it’s 89% open and they’re making snow on the closed trails. Gore is the red headed stepchild of ORDA. mm
