ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Where would you get onto I-95? From Albany, the route I take south is to get onto I-88 to Binghamton, then I-81 all the way to VA. Can head back towards I-95 on US50 to US17 starting in Winchester. Then get onto I-95 outside Fredericksburg. The primary advantages are no tolls and completely...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Since I drive in more than one region fairly often, a key reason I opted for a PHEV instead of an EV was so that I didn't have to think differently about where/when to refuel when on a long drive away from home. Not an issue going between NC and FL, but would need more planning between NC and...

    Bring the Stoke

I get the feeling that Mountain Capital Partners is playing with their lift ticket prices to see what happens. Purgatory has $9 lift tickets for early season. Even in January the midweek prices are quite low at the moment.

The Sand Trap: for Players, Hackers and Duffers

Original Ryder Cup back in the late 1920s was USA vs Britain. Then added Ireland. Eventually added "continental Europe" in 1979. Probably because the Americans were winning most of the time and the scores were often lopsided. The Brit who helped get it started by donating the trophy took up...

    In Memory Of...

Interesting that most articles about Redford's passing don't mention skiing at all. The Powder article includes the Powder cover from November 1980 of Redford blasting down some powder. RIP. September 16, 2025...

    Michigan Conditions

Since the big ice storm that hit the Highlands in Michigan was in March when most people in that region were done with snowsports, didn't hear about the mess for which they are still doing clean up work. The level of destruction luckily didn't touch lifts or base buildings. The fact that Boyne...

    Today's Hike

Did a quick solo trip to the NC mountains. Mainly to see another show at the Flat Rock Playhouse. Since the weather cooperated, got in a day of hiking in Dupont State Forest near Hendersonville. A Ski Diva I came to know when my daughter was at UNC Asheville showed me one of her favorite...

    Bring the Stoke

Wolf Creek mid-December 2021. Pic taken about noon as we got ready to head out. Lifts opened late that day. Snow was fluffy. Well worth the drive from Pagosa Springs. Since then my friends and I stay in South Fork, so no need to drive over Wolf Creek Pass. :)

Was only for a specific day as I remember. Not a holiday period. Mountain Capital Partners, which owns AZ Snowbowl, also has free season multi-resort season passes for kids 12 and under.

    The Indy Pass

Apparently the Indy custom plate challenge was far more popular than expected. They decided to cap it at 500. The perk is an Indy+ pass. If someone had already paid for an Indy Pass, that money was refunded. September 16, 2025 "License Plate Program Comes to An End Indy Pass is announcing...

New way to get a new pair of Renoun skis every 2 years, starting Fall 2025

A friend who is very good at finding bargain skis online, which she re-sells at a profit, dived into the details for Renoun Pro. Apparently a member gets new skis every 24 months, but can trade in at any time for a $150 fee. After the first 24 months are up, the skis are considered paid in...

The Double Chair Podcast is Live

Enjoyed the discussion. Agree that someone in the northeast who is considering Ikon or Epic may be better off with some version of an Epic pass. Note that in addition to 2 days at each resort, the Mountain Collective can also be used for additional days at 50% off. Someone who expects to get...
