Who's on the DL?

listen to your body
I'm pretty extreme with this. Doctors be like WTF are you here for bro?

I had a sports doc tell me to "come back when you need knee surgery."

So, apparently (exaggeration, yes) all docs who are not runners tell you to stop running. Again, no expert, but if you run and build up safely, over time, it can improve your joint strength. And any form of exercise that increases your vo2 max is good for longevity (read outstanding). 60% of the population can increase vo2 max from zone two (easy) running. The other 40 percent have to run fast 20% of the time and zone 2 80% of the time to increase vo2 max. So I take everything (especially what I say) with a grain of salt.

I imagine it is the same with non skier doctors. And while i have not read up on it, I can tell you that from how I feel when I ski, it certainly has good exercise benefit.

Cataract surgery was quick& pain free.
Even got a nice shoulder massage pre-op along with some type of short acting IV stuff.

Was a bit sedated but never saw a light show in my life like the one I saw from when the lens was coming out till the bionic one was in.
Holy-dadgum-dang-moly.
Post-op checkup showed eye healing well and am allowed to shovel snow again.
Whooh dang digiggity dog whooh.
Next one scheduled for next week then nap hibernation times begin again.
Hope to be cleared for ⛷️ turns by The New Year.
Make some nice turns for me till then.
Have fun Stay safe.
The binary spectroscopic studies I’ve been performing by alternating closing each eye are completed,
Colors are the same now.

Folks completed pretty much a mirror image of the last procedure today with the same team just working on the opposite eye.

Discussed joys of petting dogs with the lady who gave me the massages pre-op, of which she has 2 rescues, Told her I bet yer dogs are spoiled. She laughed. Even got a toe squeeze as she exited.

The anesthetist musta ’bumped up the versed cause the light show only lasted a bit, followed by a friendly "don’t do that" when I came to and was getting ready to try to rub my eye. Post-op check was fine. Gonna nap, chill till Ole Miss game Saturday and continue to get ready for Christmastime & The New Year.

Hope to be back in the saddle again soon.
Tail is wagging.

Good luck, sending positive vibes!!!!

I've been there. There's little or no research on why some runners are injury prone and others keep going into their 80s. One of my training buds runs in 5- or 6-year-old sneakers. If I did that, I'd be crippled.

Weight lifting is also good for bone density, tendon and ligament strength.

As Vegard Ulvang said, a lot of easy training and some hard training. Two hard workouts per week worked for me.

I think a lot of it depends on the surface that you’re running on. There’s lots of evidence to suggest that running on asphalt and hard surfaces with highly cushioned sneakers with large stack heights is very bad for joints, knees, back and so on. Our ligaments and tendons didn’t evolve to take on the stresses of that high level of repeated pounding. The quest for fastest times often leads to injury.

If health and safety is the goal, slower times than the rest of the pack would have to be accepted. Trail running with minimal footwear is much less impactful and is quite the opposite of what just-do-it sneaker companies have told us for decades. Shoes with a wide toe box, short stack and zero drop help support our natural foot shape and stride. Barefoot is known to be best as it coincides with our evolution. It is in fact something entirely different, you lose the speed but gain awareness and mindfulness.

If I was to wager I’d bet Tommy’s had successful cataract surgery.

I've always thought that swimming is the best exercise for older adults. Running seems pretty rough/high impact
on the ole carcass.
The downside to swimming is that it doesn't help at all for bone building. Bone loss after a certain age is not only a problem for women. It happens for men too. That's a reason that a broken hip is a known risk for seniors.
