I want to be optimistic about Gore, but...Best opening day in a long time. All the open trails were full width. I don’t think that happened at all last year. There were swales on Foxlair so that should be ready as soon as Sunway is open.
Maybe they’re trying to do better than last year.

Comparing those is an insult to Gore. I think they would be better compared to jimney peakI want to be optimistic about Gore, but...
Yesterday Belleayre opened with 25% of its area, 13 of 62 trails, top to bottom with skiing for all levels. Gore is more than twice the size with 104 trails and it opened with 4 intermediate trails, and one of them was Ruby. Also a zippy thingy and a $40 million building with no working bathrooms.
Rant over.

I agree with all that. Belle is more comparable to Jiminy Peak than it is to Gore, but both of them have more open now than Gore does. This year opened way better than last year. It's too soon to complain this year, but Gore lit my fuse with a pop up about how it's "the biggest ski are in New York." Clearly it doesn't have the biggest snowmaking plant. ORDA has plenty of money to spend on buildings I don't care about, but they expanded the Gore footprint without building out adequate snowmaking to support it.Yesterday was one of the best opening days at Gore since the 18 inch storm )forgot what year). Now that I have met you I do love your rants but... Whiteface is just a little farther for me than Belle. Belle is small and compact so it is easier to cover more terrain quicker than either of the other two. I have a new affinity for Belle because when I was working down there I skied it often. I love that Seneca is one of the first trails open. Skyward no and Rumor no. However, I skied Gore yesterday and loved it. Whiteface last Saturday, the skiing was great the people however, way too much. I will be at Gore Sunday and Whiteface Monday and or Wednesday... but cue my signature quirky but IMHO they have the best trails and I could give crap about the lodges. I just don't my pass to cost a fortune
Belle had the Thunderhawk Learning Center at the summit open which I thought was pretty cool. Peanut was able to rip a couple laps there before we committed to Deer Run. The beginner carpet area at the base was still a mud pit. The Lightning Quad and Iroquois serving beginners was also open. Belle is kicking ass.Yesterday Belleayre opened with 25% of its area, 13 of 62 trails, top to bottom with skiing for all levels.
This time of year you need to compare terrain mileage, but on this metric, Gore is considerably underperforming the other ORDA mountains. Gore currently has 3.24 miles of open terrain. Belleayre has 5.42 miles and Whiteface has 5.22 miles.I want to be optimistic about Gore, but...
