ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

following... I'm in the same boat. I was holding out for the Tesla shingles but it doesn't look like that's happening anytime soon.
I got a quote from the partner installer via the Tesla website. What a joke. Not only is the pricing for the solar shingles outrageous, but they were like $15K over other quotes for traditional panels. They also tried to sell me on some accelerated depreciating asset tax scheme.

This thread debates the pros & cons of vehicles ICE vs electric.
I charged two 40V lithium batteries twice while weedwacking while the weeds were not as tough as they’re gonna get.

It's a nasty job. Woulda been worse if I didn’t have to wait for the batteries to charge & could sit and have cold refreshment🍺. Gas weedwackers are worse.
I'm pretty sure two batteries would last me 3 hours of constant wracking. You have a lot of weeds

It was a most of the day affair but I paced myself. One battery was new last year. The other one was an older battery. Both Ryobi.

Whacked weeds at two different places & pulled the roots outta some of em to boot. CNY is a temperate rain forest. Everything grows fast now & whatever grows fastest wins.

New tires today. I never lubricated my calipers and they say I need new brakes and rotors. They need to be lubricated or the slide pins will seize, lack of use, free free floating they rust. Then it pulls harder on the inside pad. My outside pads are fine, inside are I could not see them. But they passed it for inspection. Was the guy doing me a solid?? I didn't think a dealership would do it if it wasn't up to code.
The rear passenger side wheel was squeaking and I asked them to lube the calipers, which they didn't say it still squeaks

You think they would pass the brakes if they were not up to code?

I believe the NYS DMV law for NYSI is if there's any pad left it will pass NYSI. That said, a good shop would've mentioned to you what they saw and recommend a repair.

Caliper service (caliper lube/clean) is a real thing here in the NE. They are exactly right in that the salt/sand/mud/general crap will get into the caliper and cause them to seize. When that happens it will create uneven pad wear and eventually warp rotors, or at least create hotspots in them. Caliper services, imo, should be done once a year. It's certainly cheaper than having to buy new calipers.

The electrician who specializes in installing and maintaining solar panels on roofs has been at our house lately dealing with squirrel damage. He has a Ford Lightning. Got a used fleet Lightning. He loves it.

I was working in the yard and noticed the hood was up. When he does that at work sites, often people assume the truck has a problem. :)

One of the few issues I had with my old 4runner, they were notorious for seizing...
