Gore Mountain Conditions

We usually look forward to heading up to Gore & going thru Sparkle City to ski.
Looks like it’s over to Belle and/or Oak for ⛷️ road trips until things improve.

How much of the mountain ops BS is related to the shiny new lodge's sewer &/or lack thereof? Something's smelly.

Dude take the trip to whiteface.

Forget "100% open by Christmas, no excuses!" Sno, I'm not even optimistic that they'll be 100% open by 3/15.

My wife and I had a long discussion about Gore. The mountain this year exudes the vibe that no-one really cares about it. It just feels neglected, no care or love put into it. More so than ever. The whole thing is in a sad state.
This...last week we went to Whiteface. Today we went to Killington. It was amazing...trails covered from side to side, the majority of the mountain open with the crowds pretty spread out. Many lifts were ski on and when I waited, it was a few minutes. I ran into other Gore regulars that were doing the same thing. So I drive from my home downstate, to my ski house and then I leave and drive two more hours each way, seeking out a better experience. That is how frustrating Gore is this season. My new plan is to ski somewhere else on Saturdays.

My shorthanded response was my previous post. This is the more detailed one. They have a significant number of trails that are not open, which currently have no active snowmaking. I'll divide them into 3 categories.

First is the never skip category. They will in all likelihood open these trails eventually:

Pipeline
46er
Sagamore
Uncas/Lower Uncas
Open Pit
Lies
Rumor
Fairview

Next is the "maybes". These may or may not be skipped in any given year:

Pete Gay/Loop
Wood Out (snowmaking added this year)
1A
Twin Fawns
Upper/Lower Steilhang

Finally is the likely skips. These trails have piping, but I haven't seen it used in many years if ever.

Powder Pass/North Star
Little Dipper

As you can see, there's a lot of stuff that they haven't gotten to, and/or won't likely get to. I grouped trails together that they typically make snow on simultaneously. This list doesn't even account for any resurfacing needs, which given recent reports I assume are significant. Does anyone know if they intend to hold any large terrain park events this year? If so, then they will need to make a lot of snow on Wild Air soon.

In contrast, these are the remaining trails at Whiteface that have yet to see snowmaking:

Hoyt's
Lookout Below
Essex (snow was made in November, but trail was lost to thaw after Christmas and needs snowmaking to reopen)
Upper Northway
Upper/Lower Mackenzie
Middle/Lower Parkway

That's it. That's the list. And they have already completed resurfacing of most of what's already open.

I’ve been skiing Gore since before it had snowmaking, and I don’t think I’ve never seen it this bad. Belleayre was essentially fully open last Tuesday but Gore had less than 40% of its trails open Friday. The upper mountain was better than its been but Sunway between Twister and Wild Air was almost impassable and large areas of Twister were unedgible and unavoidable.
I haven’t seen the large swales they used to make before they opened trails either.
Maybe the problem isn’t snowmaking capacity. Maybe when Howie retired they lost the institutional knowledge they need to run the place.

It might be tough if they're reading this thread.

I'll see if there is any interest.
