Belleayre Conditions

CRAZY.

Guys and gals I am back. I got logged out and never logged back in - I know, very lazy.

Hope everyone is well. My personal news - running my first marathon this Sunday (if I wasn't, I'd probably go skiing!). Wish me luck. I am slow and middle aged. I've trained pretty well for a novice, starting in July, peaked at 41 miles per week and did a few long runs, including a 21-miler. Before that, I hadn't run in years (over a decade). My main goal is just to finish and have fun.

Now I am tapering, where you run less and eat lots of carbs. Gets kind of boring!

PS - Rivian is opening a high speed charging station in Queensbury NY, so that's cool. Looks like 30 minutes or so from Gore.

Belle open only one day after Killington!? Looks like those snow making investments are paying off. Hope to make it up this weekend but I was totally unprepared for an opening this early.

Nice job Belleayre! Figured I was not going to ski til Nov 30 as not worth driving 12 hr r/t for 600 feet of vertical on 2 runs plus a hike.

ORDA comes through with 900 feet of vertical on 2 runs with no walk only half the distance away. Making it worth going “off pass” for a longer Skison.

Look forward to hearing a conditions report today before heading up tomorrow AM. Last year opening weekend Dot Nebel was real nice but Upper Seneca was treacherous icy.

I wish that lift were a bit faster, but Dot + Seneca are probably the two best trails open right now.

I love that Belle bucks the trend and prioritizes it's advanced terrain over beginner stuff in the early season. It makes a lot of sense consider the beginners won't show up until XMAS, plus it's less acreage for them to cover.

Last season I believe they opened TTB with Gondola as well as Hawk open, but conditions were pretty slushy on the bottom part. Certainly easier to get better conditions at higher altitude is probably more the issue than wanting to open harder terrain

They could just do Deer Run, but yeah no doubt the setup of the mountain definitely makes it advantageous to do the short advanced runs off the gondy first. Also having so much firepower and a small acreage they are confident they can get everything open in time for the Holidays

For example Platy usually does the "S" before it gets to Northface because they want to make sure it's open for XMAS, even though (I think) it's more acreage and gets more direct sunlight.
