Whiteface Conditions

All I can say is what month is it? Whiteface was off the charts good today and it feels and is skiing like mid-late January. Conditions were excellent all around. ROTDs were Northway, Mountain Run, Lower Mac, Cloudspin, Niagara, Victoria, and Lower Sky. Cloudspin and Lower Sky had soft soft soft natural everywhere and great coverage. Everything really skiied great though and even the lower mountain was still nice carveable packed pow and hard pack when I left at 3 when my legs flamed out after skiing non stop since first gondi at 8:30.

WF is killing it again this year with the snowmaking and grooming and the natural snow obviously has helped. If you'd ask me a few weeks ago if I'd be lapping Cloudspin on December 13 I'd laugh at you. What an amazing start to the season up here.

Tomorrow is going to be cold AF, but I'll be back.
Would've been nearly perfect if they didn't screw the pooch with the lifts, not filling every seat on the gondola and leaving Freeway as "racers only" the entire day despite the snow report falsely claiming it was open, thus making the line for the gondola unnecessarily long. I hid from the crowds the summit most of the day, and still had a good time. Hard to not have a good day when I get 7 laps on Cloudspin.

Enjoy🏂 ⛷️❄️❄️
I thought about posting this article too as I read it this morning before heading out to ski over coffee. Can't argue with it as they have so much open and so much snow.

I'd argue they should blow Skyward before Hoyts. I like Hoyts but Skyward IS Whiteface and getting that open should be a higher priority than Hoyts after Wilmington imo.

I never waited more than 5 minutes at the gondi when I rode it. I did singles but still. Longest wait was at the bell and I waited maybe 7 minutes. Not sure what the lines were you speak of unless you weren't in singles which that did get long at times.

Maybe I just got lucky with timing of my runs to the line. I dunno

I didn’t find the lift waits too bad Saturday. Maybe I have a higher tolerance for lift lines than for traffic on the trails.
I’m gonna bail out today as soon as the Santas show up.

Good day today but busy. Definitely busier than yesterday.

The Santa's definitely descended on Whiteface in force making for some longer lines on the gondi and crowded trails at times. Conditions still held up well though despite the traffic. They got maybe an inch after lifts closed yesterday and it was spitting snow throughout the day but wasn't adding up to much. When I left it appeared a couple guns were going on bottom of Wilmington but could have been bears den. I know plan is for them to blow that next.

Would have helped a lot on the Gondi line if they had run the new LWF lift. Mtn run was excellent yesterday but a pita having to use the Gondi to get to it. But amazing conditions this early in the season!

Agree. I heard some scuttlebutt there's an issue with the mid station that with the bars down the chairs don't clear it and that's why it's not open but could just be lack of help as it's early. Apparently the staff from South America aren't up yet and because of that they don't have enough lifties and that's why the Notch wasn't open this weekend either.

All gondi rumors though so take both with a grain of salt.

I believe there is some truth to both.

There is really no reason for The Notch to have been closed as soon as they had 2 routes to the base. They had that prior to last weekend.

I noticed at LWF that the same pegs that the newer Gore lifts have that go between your legs, were installed on the foot rests as stoppers, which would keep the bar higher than if the foot rest were allowed to come all the way down to the seat like on most lifts. So that would be indicative of a clearance issue. Lifts with mid stations need chairs to be able to pass through the mid station fully loaded with the bar down, and not hit the snow.
